I found this information on the Tangerine Dream forum. Good news for people like me who balked at the high prices for copies of "Epsilon in Malaysian Pale".

I've already got Epsilon, Stuntman and Pinnacles which just leaves Aqua and Ages. I decided to pass even though they are 2012 remasters.Spending too much money recently on CD's and DVD's so this is just stretch too far. However for TD fans who don't have any Edgar Froese solo albums this is a great box set. His solo stuff certainly stands up. I love Pinnacles expecially.

^ Which is me. Big smile

Been meaning to get Epsilon for awhile now. I'll probably invest in this as I have no solo albums by him.

I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

I like both AQUA and AGES. If anything you learn real quick how the synthesizer was born and how difficult it was to do these things in those days where each sound happened or it didn't. Nowadays you can save things way better than you did in those days.

Froese's remastering these things, so far, has been interesting ... and I have to admit that the live concert for Phaedra sounded magnificent ... but I am not sure that it sounded as good as what I heard at the Santa Monica Civic in 1974 or not!

For me, a lot of these remasters are actually trying to recreate the "image" of what we wanted in music in those days ... it's highly visual stuff and very neat ... and I recommend it, although too many folks these days are way too tied up to the metronomic rock sound to be able to appreciate something this free form by comparison, even though I'm starting to think that Edgar Froese is too much of a rock composer ... his pieces are all pre-fab'd as well and the same pieces of start, middle, chorus, end are always there ... I preferred the early days, because that part did not exist and it felt like the music was much more free form and enjoyable ... than it is now. It's way too composed right now!

I know what you mean even though I've never quite been able to get as excited about early TD as many around here do. For me the pinnacle of TD's music arrived in 1980 when they recorded Tangram followed by Exit. I love that stuffEmbarrassed

I heard the remasters and they were enough of an upset, so no reason nor benevolence to invest anymore. I would not recommend them to the originals.

The words "Edgar Froese" and "remaster" in one sentence send shivers down my spine.

I would be highly skeptical, if he thought of adding even one single note of music to the originals you can be sure it will be the wrong note.

Also, where's Macula Transfer?

If you check the Tangerine Dream website, I think that Edgar and friends are making sure that everything is remastered and cleaned up and what not.

I guess it is the "in-thing" ... and cheaper than trying to get the rights back from Virgin, knowing that Branson is still ripping off Edgar (and others) with!

In the end I relented and did buy it (not too expensive on Amazon) . Very impressed with Aqua and Ages, nice remastering and doesn't sound that too much meddling has gone on. Edgar's solo works really stand up impressively.Highly recommended.
