Canadian band with 3 albums in the 80's, heard of them in reviews here but didn't see them suggested yet.
Detailed discography is on discogs: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Terraced+Garden And Gnosis2000 has a good deal of info so I won't paste it here: http://gnosis2000.net/reviews/terracedgarden.htm Something from "Melody And Menace" in 1982. And some from "Braille" in 1984. |

These samples have a touch of JR/F just to leave that gate open, while the latter samples have some avant - even punk - flavour; far from full symphonic prog in my book.
Someone reading this knowing their albums in their entirety to judge on a firm basis?
In conclusion, crossover should have a go but I wouldn't be surprised if none of the teams accept this.

No it's not symphonic, maybe crossover or eclectic? There is a lot of David Cross type of violin and a KC'S influence in their music. Didn't hear the latest "Within" who is suppose to be more progressive.

Thanks yam yam, I couldn't find something from "Within" anywhere. By the way, both first two albums are on youtube if anyone wants to give it a listen. I'm not an expert on genre though, I do think that sometimes it's accessible enough to be crossover.

This song doesn't sound like anything they did in the 2 first albums! |

"Apparatus" is heavy prog done the Rush way far removed from the other samples.

Sorry if I'm bumpin this too early, but I didn't really get the feeling that this one went for evaluation somewhere, or has it? I was listening to samples again and thinking that eclectic might be the thing since the music is all over the place. Maybe it got more heavy as albums went but I think it was still too diverse for heavy even if the third album did turn out to be sounding like Rush.

sounds like prog music - but as you guys worked out ... very hard to pigeonhole please give me some time, I will listen intensively before forwarding this to a team Edited by Rivertree - July 12 2012 at 10:27 |

here we are ...
very interesting stuff indeed, I didn't waste my time, found some songs which I really liked! 'Melody & Melace' comes more folk oriented, also Alan Parsons Project, Moody Blues reminiscent 'Braille' (my favourite) appears rockier, more tricky, matured and 'Within' seems to gather pace again Overall there are so much different styles to find - folk, neo, symphonic, jazz, canterbury, art rock - which speaks for eclectic, on the other hand some parts are also crossing the border to popular rock music So, in the end, after putting two albums and one song into my cocktail shaker, I'd prefer to forward the result to the crossover team ... but can't guarantee where this will end ... in order to follow the evaluation process you can check here (with patience) |
