I don't see why an Admin has to lock these f_____g things just to stop you using them, it's not in my job description and I'm not at your beck and call. Just stop using the old one - it's not rocket science - enough threads die-on-their-feet around here without them being locked, people just stop posting in them.

People bitch about concentration of power, bullying Admins, dictator mindsets, hidden posts, locked threads, micromanaged moderation, "fear" of suspension and perceived pettiness... then moan because there are two Shreds and the old one hasn't been locked!? wtf?

Personally I don't see the point of locking them at 500 or 1000 pages - I don't believe it slows down the server response time because the "This page was generated in" message doesn't show a significant increase for longer threads and we know the pages didn't go screwy until the post-count hit 32,768 - which is 1,638.2 pages - and that was on earlier versions of the Web-wiz forum software so that bug could be fixed for all we know. But not all Admins see it that way, so that's why I said Bob would probably lock the old one, he didn't, and I won't.

Says here never stop posting in this thread

IIRC his name change occurred shortly after he prematurely started a new Shred. LOL

Btw, ds, can you make your sig/avatar schema slightly less insane? It is mentally destabilizing. Like, I might start eating my hair if I watch it much longer, lol.

It'd be hilarious if Dean merged the shreds. It would be even more nonsensical than normal.

You can fix thread length in almost every forum software ever. Why not just fix it to 500 and be done with it?

I bought my little bro a microKORG XL for HS graduation.

Maybe so, but that Shred ran for another 158 pages before Bob locked it.

From what I understand we've been told we don't need to open new threads at around 500 anywhere before, yet that Shred was closed, so we keep doing it. I'd be happy with not starting new Shreds though.

*shrug*

Makes no odds to me if we have one or none and it seems pointless to have two active at any one time - that's how cliques and flame-wars start and we're not interested in those.

It also makes no difference to me when you decide to open an new one as long as you stop using the old one at the same time - so don't open a new one without the agreement of all concerned - consensus, a vote, rock-paper-scissiors - whatever it takes. And once it's opened then decamp to the new thread en-mass.

None of this needs Admin involvement.

The only reason they should get locked is because they get buggy.  And the only reason a new thread should be created is because the old thread got buggy.  It just really irks me that people keep creating new threads when a new one is not required.

Well I wasn't mad, just making some observations. Since there are no actual 'topics' in these threads, it doesn't make sense to start a new one at an arbitrary point like say, 500 pages in.
