Sadly this issue hasn't been resolved yet because rating bots are still out there...

Yes, they got nice ratings from the reviews, so its not like they manipulated themself into a top spot, and they are entitled to promote their music,  what sticks in my eyes, is how obvious it is to them, that they should use the weakness in PA's rating system (anyone can rate without much effort) , if they want to stay on top of the list.

Besides even 10 review manipulations for one album will hardly dent overall ratings. The big picture will always come through in the endSmile

Any man who is able to respond intelligently whilst making reference to bananas is gold in my book.

and he is, of course, totally right as well. Sure music has and always will be a commodity, but when you start slinging it out like this, then it gets to be too much for me.
I do not think it breaks any guidelines though.

Take a look at this, sad how a band, seemingly serious about their music, actively asking for people to create an account and rate the album.
Another example that ratings without review is abused to the point whereyou cant trust PA's ratings anymore.

I can understand why this irks you so but I'm afraid there is nothing inherently wrong in inviting people to be favourable about your 'product'. After all (and this is the bit that maybe sticks in both our throats) they appear entirely unfazed that their art has been reduced to a commodity that obeys the same laws of supply and demand as that of bananas. (Although bananas are perishable, not digital so it's a crap analogyEmbarrassed) I'm old enough to remember when musicians were supposed to have precisely zero business acumen. Now it seems it's me whose hopelessly out of step and it's actually tertiary qualified entrepreneurs with DAWS who stand the only chance of longevity? Just waiting for the music software boffins to release a plug in for Pro Tools called 'Edgy Angst Dissolution V 2.0'

This is obvious abuse: http://www.progarchives.com/Collaborators.asp?id=19023
Too bad for that one last review, because that was actually a good and reasonable review.

Well spot!

I get the feeling that this person doesn't like RPI....Wink

Well.

  1. RPI
  2. Genesis (all eras)
  3. ELP
  4. Mahavishnu
  5. Marillion
  6. Pink Floyd
  7. Queen
  8. Rush
  9. Robert Whyatt
  10. Yes
I always ask myself

If somebody dislikes two albums of a band, enough to rate them with 1 star...WHY IN THE HELL DOES HE/SHE BUY ALL THEIR ALBUMS?

This guy parafulmini hates all PFM, but he wants us to believe he bought 18?

Even more, he says he bought 22 Banco del Mutuo Soccorso just to rate all of them with one star

Unless he's a bloody masochist, he never heard more than one album, maybe two.

Iván

PS: The Mystical, I find your ratings fair, mostly because you tell us what you think in your review.

Lol, I'm not gonna pretend that I have bought every prog album I have ever listened to...Progstreaming? Spotify?

Mystical, this guys Parafulmini is a liar

No streaming site has all the albums by PFM, Banco, Genesis, ELP, Rush,  etc availlable.

Plus, if you hated 3 albums of a band, you don't listen the other 20

I am currently digging:

Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz!

Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

Look, afraid this is a rating manipulation or something.

The 10 members with 4 or 5 stars have joined a while before.

If your ratings are sincere why would you need to ask others to confirm their appropriateness?

Why do you think we allow you to submit your opinions in the first place?Confused

Yeah it is just that PA is rather strict about their guidelines.
