They are a Symphonic Black Metal/Folk Metal band from Ukraine. I think their newest album "The Voice of Steel" is proggy enough to be on here.
And their other stuff can be somewhat proggy too. What do you guys think?

These Black Metal/Folk Metal bands generally have a rough time on here. It was a struggle to get Falloch cleared just recently, and these guys remind me of Orwell a bit, who weren't cleared (but neither were they totally rejected). These guys have been around for about 17 years, are one of the biggest names of the "pagan black metal" movement, and have a fair discography, so I'm surprised they haven't been suggested before. Our sister site Metalmusicarchives have them of course: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/nokturnal-mortum.aspx. Let's see what Andy says, since this is very much his territory.

Quite a bit of Emperor influence in there, which I enjoy quite a bit, as Emperor are my favorite black metal - gotta love the symphonic chaotic stuff, eh?
![]() However, these guys have an almost psych-flavored tinge to them, with a delicious hard rock instrumental almost bluesy guitar breakdown in the first sample. It might be a toughie, but these guys have half a chance here.

One of the reasons why they weren't already here could have been because of the band's past affiliation with NS ideologies, but I couldn't care less about a band's political views as long as the music is good. And the music of Nokturnal Mortum is very good, their probably in my top 5 favourite bands of all time. I definitely think their music deserves to be on here, as they make use of epic song structures, eclectic arrangements, complex time signatures, and their newest album has guitar work influenced directly from Pink Floyd and Riverside.
It is, of course, all up to you guys though.

Besides, if their fellow country-mates Drudkh are considered proggy enough to be on this site, I don't see any reason why Nokturnal Mortum shouldn't be also.

They were rejected from Prog Metal.
And you might know me as Andyman1125 on MMA. I don't tend to visit there much anymore, though.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to try them as Extreme Prog instead? Whatever, it's not up for me to decide anyways...

Love them, and a band's ideology shouldn't temper with people's views whether they're prog or not. They've got some real proggy 'epic' sounds to their black metal.
