Sorry, I was 11 years old in 1980, so no diapers  As to the rest, I figured that was what you meant, but couldn't resist. Also, I don't think Yesshows sounds bad at all, though certainly the quality could have been better. Yessongs on the other hand........well, it was the 70's I guess is the only excuse for the "sound" on that one (though the performance is the best I've ever heard from Yes). |

Will JD still sing with Glass Hammer? or did he quit them?

I don't know ... I got to see them at their very best, and what I consider the greatest symphony/concerto ever put together by a rock band, in TFTO ... goodness ... almost 40 years ago ... wow ... and in all honesty, too much of the rest of the stuff is just a bunch of songs, that don't turn me on.
I like to close my eyes and live through a Mahler Symphony. I like to close my eyes and live through a Tchaikovsky Symphony. To me, The Wall is a symphony/opera done by Pink Floyd ... and sometimes, seeing some of these things, and what nots ... makes me feel old, and out of touch and that the "hits" are long gone and dead. And I would have paid to see Dream Theater with that orchestra ... yes I would ... but sadly, that is not something that many folks here can relate to or appreciate a whole lot. The musicianship alone ... I would not trade John Myoung for Yo Yo Ma.
I realize that most rock musicians do not think of themselves in terms of music, or history, and in the end, I find that sad ... I think many of them deserve a lot more credit than simply a rock band ... a solid bunch of musicians and folks that take music seriously ... but in the end ... I/we lose ... because of the fan nature of "fame" that most places are working with at this time. There is little appreciation for a whole lot else.

Benoit is out, Jon Davison is in. I don't think BD wrote any lyrics on the album, so no issues there. JD is still a member of Glass Hammer. |

Yessongs was recorded on a 4 track recorder. Yuck.
Yesshows came out in 1980, but the songs were from the 1976(was there '74?)1977 & 1 or 2 '78 tracks, and YES didn't seem to really upgrade the recording equipment from Yessongs. Yipes.
One mystery though.. I have ben searching for a YES 1977 Tour Sounboard or better recording. On all the YES forums, people claim that none exist, well, on Yesshows there is a recording of Parallels, which was played in 1977 only.
It is clearly a stereo mix, I think it says from Detroit. So where is the rest of that 1977 show???
I first saw YES in 1977 @MSG, the GFTO tour, I would love to have a better than audience recording of that show, it was like you said, YES when they were truly special. They played 3 encores that night. Full versions of

Decent questions actually! Benoit's photo still shows up on the Yes website, but I expect these to be updated soon with Davison's It appears to me that B. David was given a rather brusque heave-ho after he had vocal problems! Maybe that brought back post-traumatic-stress-disorder back to the band, after going through it with Jon Anderson? (that's why I love that YouTube cartoon clip!) Jon Davison's supposedly on loan from Glass Hammer, but anything can happen. If he makes the impact that I think he might, I believe he could be the long-term solution to their vocal problem. He might actually draw fans....I always got the impression that fans tolerated B. David rather than fully embraced him. And, with Mssr. Squire in charge, I'm sure all the legal papers were long in order for Davison to sing anything he wants to sing with a Yes trademark on it! In fact, Davison might now become the main lyricist for the band....I could see them planning for a run-up CD to "Fly From Here." Interesting stuff going on for an old band!

Ok, this quote by Downes just comes off as super phoney. I am a huge Glass Hammer fan and an admirer of Jon Davison, but GD's comments are way over the top. Perhaps if Mozart was re-animated and had joined YES, these comments would be on point. Anybody else smell B.S.??? I really do love Drama but I am losing what little respect I have left for Downes. I wish GD would go practice some more scales and leave the PR to the band's management. And yes, I think Glass Hammer's Fred would be a hell of an upgrade on Keys in YES atm... Hi moshkito, Very nice post. I just think we need more musicians who care about composing and making music. I go back to the mid seventies and was quite put off by the whole 80's thing when corporations ruined music, then in 1992 Eric Johnson came along and showed me great music continues(Eric Johnson - Ah Via Musicom) granted, music has been taken over by the corporations and pop seekers but there still are bands that emerge who put music first. I consider Glass Hammer to be such a band. I think The Flower Kings are that kinda band. I hope more artists continue the great tradition that bands like YES seemed to pioneer. |

Yeah man, I try not to be critical of an artist but when something is so over the top wrong, I do think as a paying customer I have a right to voice an opinion. I never cared for Billy Sherewood's over production and completely out matched abilities when he unbelievably got into YES, however I never spoke poorly of him unit I payed $$$ for an official YES live recording and Billy did a pathetically putrid, can't even call it a guitar solo at the end of Starship Trooper at a Universal Ampitheatre Show. It was so far beyond bad and this was YES, so it was truly absurd. So after that point I felt free to shout it from the Heavens, as it were.... This is YES we are talking about. Not Bon Jovi who perhaps picked a clunker on 2nd guitar.
Well to be consistent...
Even though I personally LOVE YES - Drama, when I heard the YES concert video where GD destroys HOTS worse that I ever could, no matter how drunk... The same little switch went off in my head. I said, this clown just destroyed a YES song live! From the video, the guitarist in the band(S.H.
 ) was pretty pissed off as well.So I do think that such appaling blunders allow for opinions. Last time I checked, fans like you & I have spent literally thousands of dollars supporting these bands, so if Geoff Downes or Billy Sherewood fan boys have problems, I would respectfully suggest, that Geoff & Billy spend a little more time practicing their instrument before they step on stage with YES, and not worry about opinions from people who actually pay these artists to be Rock Stars, and not have to work for a living like you & I.

HAH! Great rant! Yeah, Billy is basically a bassist first IMHO....then rhythm guitarist/vocalist. He does OK with CIRCA, but I thought his Conspiracy gig with Squire was mighty weak. It amazes me how many tribute bands have musicianship at least as good as, if not MUCH better than, this touring Yes version! In the early 70's, nobody sounded like Squire....now, everybody has his body of material to practice to (myself included), so we can nail the sound down pretty well. Singing alto-tenor whilst playing is, well, another story.... These guys are friends of mine, I would have suggested Steve Carney to fill in for Jon Anderson, but nobody listens to me (although I DID suggest Jon Davison long, long ago on PA!) I need to give bassist Chris Hook some hell about his stage wardrobe!! Hope you like this, DM! There's more out there. Sorry 'bout the sound quality, but you get the idea. |

Nah, hell no! His name is Chris Hook, a fine fellow! I once told him that I was going to be buried with my 1973 Rick 4001 and he replied, most appropriately, "Where are you going to be buried??" He can smoke me on bass! I'm long remiss in flying back to England & seeing these fellows!! They are now gearing up to tour again, I'll let you know any updates.

There are two possible solutions for this mess. Actually three solutions. First is for Yes to pack it in and go and pursue hobbies of the rich and used to be famous like flying into space on Richard Branson's space plane or, second, get a f**king chick vocalist. At least it would give us something to look at while we,re listening to all the classics. Anderson even sounds like a chick when he gives interviews. A Yes cover band from Seattle, Washington called Parallells had a female vocalist for a while in 2007-08 named Robyn Dawn. They could call it Robyn Dawn with featuring the Yes cover band Yes. Or they could become a Yes jam band playing wicked cover versions of songs like Dark Star by The Grateful Dead. There's a few videos out on youtube with Robyn Dawn with Parallells. A particularily good one is Perpetual Change from 2008 complete with drum solo. Sorry I don't know how to add videos being from the mid 16th century..

Great video. Do they play the entire song?
The guitarist on the right with the hollowbody is fabulous. Why is there a 2nd guitarist in the band?
If anything a YES tribute band needs a 2nd keyboard player, I would think...
Anyway, awesome video. I wish I didn't move to the sticks and I could get to see some of the great
YES & RUSH & Genesis & Pink Floyd cover bands....
Did you watch that video I posted? Those people were from Chicago, you know, actually I think they might
be neighbors of yours....
