Not unless you want to cry bitter tears. It's ridiculously skilled prog musicians playing generation x-ish alt pop.

I don't mind. I'd really have to hear it first.

I've just read some glowing reviews. Sounds promising.

A lot. The vast majority of the songs were generic radio rock.

However, Infinite Fire is incredible. Although it sounded like they plucked a song from Neal's solo albums and tacked it on to the end.

I think the reviewers were star struck. After seeing those I popped in my preorder knowing there was no possible way this could suck. And the first track was pretty alrite. Kinda reminded me of some of Holdsworth's pop-fusion except not emotionless and robotic sounding.

haven't got it yet, but have heard samples and the last song.  it' sounds really good to me.  i'm a gen-xer who really didn't care for the alt pop of the 90s, but some of it was catchy.  this disc sounds like it has some of that catchy-ness along with a dash of awesome morse guitar and neal's melody and prog-clivities.  still, haven't heard the whole thing yet :-)

I think Casey McPherson had most of the creative control and that's where it went wrong.

Not really, your option precludes that anyone who likes it is a fanboy of Neal Morse and is subsequently somehow deluded and blind to how bad it really is...so i'll reiterate its a good album because it has good songs.

The parentheticals were meant to be tongue-in-cheek. AN acknowledgement of my own bias, if you will.

Well the whole supergroup was brought together by some wealthy fan/entrepreneur guy. Obviously Neal Morse and Steve Morse weren't going to give away their material when they're just getting paid for performing. So McPhearson was brought in to write something for them to actually play.

Really that "making of" trailer put me off the whole project so I'm probably not going to bother with this album. Why even get such high caliber talent just to have them play generic radio rock that any session musician could have done? Clearly he just wanted their names.

I was not disappointed, since Mike Portnoy gave many hints and clues to the type of music it was going to be. Pop, rock, and funk with dashes of prog mixed in. I'm not really into pop/rock too much, especially the modern kind, but this music was really good and catchy. Some solid Steve Morse leads, which gives the music a kind of Dixie Dregs/Dream Theater vibe at times, and sometimes it reminds me of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Infinite Fire is kind of a Neal Morse-solo mini epic, and a very good one at that, it's worth it for just that song, but there's other good stuff.

I don't think it's a perfect album, in fact, I'm not really into a couple of songs, but most of the material is fun music, and a nice mix of rock, pop, funk, prog, and fusion. Don't be turned off by the negative reviews and comments, those people are trying to hate on it, or hating on it because there isn't enough prog. BTW, Casey's vocals are no better or worse than Neal Morse's. (I particularly like Neal's vox.)

I really liked Casey's vocals, they're strong and help the heavier sections work better.

I honestly don't care for the 'progness' level, because the melodies are good, the musicianship's good, so get over it.

I don't think it's because of MacPherson's influence though. What if. The rest of the band actually wanted to make that style?? Or is that just an impossible thought. Be more open, people.
