I'm guessing you've worn-out the classics? LOL

Grace Under Pressure is one of the few Rush album i'm not a fan of.

Tom Sawyer is my all-time favorite song (between that and Zep's Stairway), and Vital Signs is my favorite Rush song.  After that it is a free-for-all as I pretty much love everything else.

The classics are great and all, but if we are talking my personal favorites well that is 80's+ Rush. I think they were more confident musicians in the 80's, and as such they incorporated a lot of different musical styles, which I feel the "classic" stuff was lacking. Also they fully developed that unique and iconic Rush sound, where as in the 70's they were still following their Zeppelin/The Who/Cream influences with a sci-fi quasi-political twist.

Oh and GUP is amazing, without it you are incomplete... INCOMPLEEET!

Hemispheres never really did all that much for me.  Especially the first side.

Agree totally with this. I am a big fan of everything Rush has produced.  I don't think they have released a bad album.  However, I prefer the 80s+ work.  I think their song writing is more sharply focused in terms of lyrics and melody and they have a wider musical palette.  Although possibly at odds with prog ideals, concision is not a bad thing - so the move away from the longer epics, in my opinion made Rush a better band.  This is not to criticise their earlier albums, but for me an album such as Grace Under Pressure is more enjoyable than say....Hemispheres.

Yeah, I was referring more to the track than the album. Hemispheres as an album is better than Caress (imo) purely because of the second side. I simply prefer Lamneth as a 'concept' track/suite etc...

So, put your musket away, Sir Dennis. You should know I only dual with swords. I'm a bit old fashioned, like that...

Confused

Ok, I should have got the "sword" part from your name, my bad.

Yes, most fans never mention "Lamneth" which is lamentable as it was RUSH's first concept piece.  I think for a first
try they connected a bunch of separate musical ideas very well.   2112 or my favorite Hemispheres side 1 would
not exist without that first effort.

I actually had that song going through my head all day yesterday.  I like it.  It's not a favorite, but it's a nice riff, and I get a kick out of Geddy screaming "Ah Think Ahm Goin' Bald!!"

This is most definitely true... and it leaked into the 90's.

Grace under Pressure, IIRC seemed to polarise opinion, the last time it was discussed around here. I actually think it's among their best 80's albums. Just behind Moving Pictures, and arguably on a par with Permenant Waves.

More enjoyable than Hemispheres, though? For me, I would probably say not, although by the time the band recorded GUP, Geddy was certainly a far better singer, imo.
