I do like the "real" goth rock from the early and mid 80's, like Bauhaus, The Cure's early 80's albums, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy etc... That whole new wave/goth/post-punk scene is brilliant!
Stuff like Marilyn Manson however, i do not like.

Manson? No. Stuff like Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Fields of the Nephilim, et. al? Yes. And I have to say I don't really have enough.

I'm a sucker for Goth stuff and I bought the Marilyn Manson album with Sweet Dream when it first came out, before he hit big with "The Beautiful People" (Which is a simple but brilliant song for what it is trying to accomplish). But musically MM stuff is about 80-90% filler and I quickly lost interest.

I really loved Type O Negative back in the day, with October Rust being really my standard for what Goth Metal is.

Loved Sisters of Mercy as well.

Wanted to love Tiamat, but they're like Anathema for me, very hit and miss.

Most recent fave is goth country star Jay Munly.
Current Listening:

Heater valve kicking on.
Snotty noses being blown.
Griping.
Maybe cookies coming out of the oven???

C is for cookie, and it is good enough for me.

This pretty much.I never regarded Marilyn Manson as goth, anyway. Too metal. Some black lippie and eye liner, does not a goth make, imo..

I liked the 80's goth scene a lot, back then. Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim, Siouxsie, The Mission et al. All good, went to a fair few goth gigs, back in the day.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I've heard some decent goth rock from the '80s and early '90s, and some of the more recent goth stuff is okay I guess, but I haven't really "gotten into" the style yet.

Interesting, I've never seen M.Manson mentioned as goth before, I only know them as watered down / alternative industrial.

I think its widely accepted that maralyn manson is not goth rock, i think its the media that has placed him into that camp more than anything else.

I prefer Gothic Metal to Goth Metal (and yes there is a difference).   Gothic Metal is bands like Trail of Tears, Sins of Thy Beloved, Eternal Tears of Sorrow ect ect.   Original goth rock is bands like Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, The Mission ect ect.

I did like the Goth Rock/Metal band Entwine, up until their 2006 album, but they started to go downhill after that.  Out of all the original Goth Rock bands, it was only Sister of Mercy i thought were alright.

I don't think you like 'goth rock'

They sing of Bats and stuff like the first Goth record

The name came from Andi the Gothic Goblin

Shame you think Passenger is good - anything from JuJu would be better and a bit more goth like

Or nu-metal.

Manson fans and other goth wannabies were spooky kids or baby bats. I think they are now called emos.

Approve troo. Approve

Juju was probably their only real Gothic Rock album - and Siouxsie was undoubtably the style icon that launched a million kohl-blacked gothic eyes, but she wasn't a Goth.

Fascinating.

Please, google the name "Mick Mercer".
Excuse me, sir, do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, Neptune, god of the Sea?

Some of the best goth bands, in my view, weren't strictly goth anyway.  Bauhaus, Love and Rockets and The Cure (my three favorites) all had inroads in other styles of rock as well.  They just didn't take goth that seriously, and I think that's the healthy attitude to take.

I somehow missed out on Siouxsie, which I regret, but my wife has some of their stuff.

Marilyn Manson doesn't even register for me.  Sounded plastic from Day One.
