Herbie edged out Hopper and Kraan in the last poll and i expect him to win again, but with which album ? They are so different from one another. That live Isotope album is killer but i don't know how many have heard it. Hopper and Boyle are nasty on that one.

Except I'll vote for Walk The Nile.

Ian Gillan Band-Clear Air Turbulence is a killer album IMO, quite under rated in comparation with other names from that period, my choice

Jan Hammer's First Seven Days is an absolute masterpiece.  Probaby the closest he got to making a prog rock album and it's a concept album to boot.  Still one of my favorites.

I used to play Hang Up Your Hangups from Headhunters, but generally I prefer Herbie's acoustic jazz outings; his acoustic piano playing is far better than his electric twiddling.

I couldn't get over how laid back that album from Hammer is. I believe it was his first after leaving Mahavishnu Orchestra so maybe he just needed to chill out some.LOL  His next album "Oh Yeah !"  had some fire in it though.

Actually, it was his second after he left Mahavishnu.  He recorded an excellent album with Jerry Goodman called Like Children.  Love Oh Yeah and saw him tour that record in Toronto with FM as the opening act.

Nice double bill, and thanks for the info about his recording with Goodman.

As much as I love Elephant9, Mwandishi(much prefer the latter two though), Jan Hammer and Egg, I do think Head Hunters towers over them quite significantly. Love that space funk fusion, and this is one of the albums I just love shakin dat ass to. Herbie made 3 masterpieces in a row IMO.

I have four of these albums: The Civil Service, Walk the Nile, Mwandishi, are all excellent, but will give a vote to Mwandishi based on what I know (my second time in a row voting for a Hancock).  It's one of my favourite Hancock albums.  Love the other two I mentioned as well.  The other album I have is Headhunters, but that album has never done it for me as much as quite a number of other Hancock albums.

I will look into that Isotope one, as well as that Kraan album, soon as I really like other albums by both of those (Illusion, and Kraan's début especially).  I'm not that familiar with Jan Hammer, I know I should be (other than Miami Vice and some other stuff off Oh Yeah, nor with the Ian Gillan Band (though I think I have heard that  Gillan album before, but not for many years).

I can picture you Bamsen walking up the street with your headphones on listening to "Head Hunters". Well you wouldn't exactly be walking, more like a combination of bouncing and walkiing.LOL

I would have been shocked if you hadn't have voted for Mwandishi Greg. I know how much you love that album.

Yep, I love it. It's a top notch album for me.  I return to it more than even Crossings and Sextant.

Mwandishi is also my favourite of that trilogy, but I've been way too into Canterbury for the last couple weeks.

I really liked Walk The Nile on its release, but haven't been listening to it much recently

The Civil Service was one of my favourite Canterbury Scene albums at one time, but I must admit that other than Cos, which I always seem to return to, I haven't listened to much Canterbury music in some years.   Around the time I started really getting into certain JRF acts like Davis, Hancock and related, I stopped listening to Canterbury so much.

Incidentally, this is my favourite jazz album at the moment (recommended to me by Saperlipopette).  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuEV1MPqvrA
