Pink Floyd. The Division Bell. Simply shocking. Simply not Floyd.

Even though i got the vinyl version - bought right after release - and was fine with  "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason"
Dont think i made it all the way trough, more then the first time.

Wow really? division bell? I prefer this one over a lot of Floyd's albums, some great songwriting there. Sometimes it's amazing how opinions can defer.

100% agree. Much better than AMLOR.

Strangely I've never bought that album even though every track I've heard off it is excellent. The keyboards are much more prominent which is the reason people are suspicious of it I suspect.

I think it's probably the synths that put some people off.  I think it's a great album -- I love Carouselembra in particular.  I've seen and known quite a few people who dismiss that album.  I prefer it to Presence.
I've now ordered itSmile

Now I'm worried, but at least you've heard tracks off it already.  Lots of variety on the album.  Carouselambra, In the Evening, All of My Love, and Fool in the Rain have been standouts for me.  I can understand, aside from the synths which are more in All of My Love and Carouselambra, though, why so many wouldn't like it as much as earlier material.  I wouldn't put it over Led Zep first six, but if one is a Zep fan then every studio album is essential.
no need to worry ,it was really cheap!

For me, In through the out door had too many weak tracks (for a Zep album) most notably the awful (ahhaahh Hot dog!) Just the song's introduction  with Plant's intro - you know immediately it is going to be a turd - and the band easily achieve this goal.

South Bound Saurez is well below par Zep.
All of my love - I know it is about an emotional subject - but I find it a dirge but slightly better than the embarrassing I'm gonna crawl. Still it does have the excellent In the evening and enjoyable Fool in the rain.

Whereas, to my ears of course, Presence has a couple of absolute classics - Achillies Last Stand and Nobody'sFault but mine (with a great harmonica break.) A couple of decent rockers (though hardly classics) Royal Orleans and Hots on for nowhere. It ends with the slow building Tea for no one - a very underrated Zep album IMHO.

Amazon reviews are no guarantee of correct opinion, but it is interesting that the Zep fans who have reviewed the bands studio albums have awarded In through the outdoor with the lowest ranking (from a quick glance)

I does have its weaknesses, certainly.  I must admit that I hadn't listened to it in full for a long time (erm, about two decades), then dug out my cassette tape (also have the LP given to me by someone who thought it crud many years ago), and, well, not as good as I remembered.  I loved it when I was in my teens, but well tastes do change.  Still love Carouselmbra though, others I and you mentioned I still like very much, and significant parts of All of My Love.

Presence has some great ones Nobody's Fault But Mine and Tea for One in particular for me, but Achilles Last Stand never really did it for me -- I found it a bit too overwrought.

My friends and I in high school were all into Zep, and none of them liked In Through the Out Door as much as me.  The same could have been said for my love of Pink Floyd's Animals back then with my homies though too, and that's pretty popular here..

The only Led Zeppelin albums I like are I and IV...everything else is a Massive Disappointment and I've heard 'em all. I hate the Crunge. Physical Graffiti takes forever. Kashmir is about fifty-three minutes too long. Moby Dick can go to hell. I hate long drum solos. The band's heartless arrogance sickens me. I was expecting a row of pure masterpieces, but get half an album of obnoxious folk-light and a half album of BABY BABY BABY OOOOOOOHHH.

Those two albums, though, are pretty damn good.

I'll tell you what the most underrated album in all history is...The Final Cut, man. Some of the most brutally sincere, viciously hateful rock poetry to ever exist. It isn't my favorite Pink Floyd album, but I like it more than Animals (by a little bit at least).

And yeah, Momentary Lapse was a ...M-M-M-Massive Disappointment. Not Division Bell. After Lapse, the Division Bell was great, but only in that context. In any other context I never listen to anything but Keep Talking and High Hopes.
He gave her his town house and his racing horses. Each meal she ate was a dozen courses. She had a million dollars worth of nickels and dimes. She sat around and counted them all a million times.

Logan - for me even a disappointing Zep album has its treasures. I think their whole back catalogue (studio albums) is worthy.

Animals? - Classic! I was at school when this came out and even some of the punks liked it!

What even crazier is that I got all the Neal Morse prog solo albums AND Spock's Beard's The Light, TKOS, and V before getting Snow, so either everything is better than Snow, or I had Neal Morse overload syndrome by the time I got around to Snow. But then I went back to it later on, and it still did nothing for me. *shrug*
My Last.fm
Jazz-rock conspiracy? Zappa and Miles played at the same festivals in the
summer of '69 right BEFORE Hot Rats AND Bitches Brew were recorded.

The Final Cut.
I was close to tears from disappointment. All the elements from The Wall that I didn't like was there in abundance.
Thank god for AMLOR and TDB. Wink

As a matter of interest, what were those elements?

Rush - Snakes and Arrows was very disappointing but then again so was Presto which was worse!

VDGG - I was very disappointed with Present and rarely play it esp the terrible second Cd which is just a bunch of outtakes and no singing  - Blech!

Yes - Disappointed with Union actually infuriated is the better choice of word.

Mars Volta - they blew it with Octahedron - it is a mess. However the new album Noctourniquet is a pleasant surprise as I was expecting more of the same dross and it turned out to be a great album albeit a new direction for the band.

King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black - I dunno, but for me after all the hype I expected something special and it is very mediocre and inconsistent.

Also the DVD King Crimson Deja VROOOM is very dark and has boring songs and poor quality lighting and camera work. It is amateurish and needs beefing up a lot!

Yes - acoustic DVD - OK it cost $5 and that's a relief as this is so dull. Really only for collectors and for the sp featuresas the concert will put me to sleep.

Hawkwind - Man, those albums in the period 79 - 95 are terrible, esp Alien BORE, The Church of HawkBORE, PXR5ZZZZZ, it is the Business of the future to be BORING, Space BOREDOM and HawkBORES 25 years on
