I am sure most of us have tried at least to convert some people into becoming prog fans. Have you had any success? I have managed to turn my younger brother into a prog maniac. But there my success story stops for now ....

None, as far as I'm aware

I only know a few people (outside this place) who have any actual passion for music of any kind. Coincidentally, they do appreciate some prog. Mostly Canterbury and some electronic.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

The only one who comes to mind is my wife Vicky; before she met me, confirmed Duran Duran, George Michael, Soft cell... now confirmed progressive rock fanatic (mind you, we have been together 24 years...)

I have introduced my son to quite a few prog groups....  He now loves Jethro Tull,  Rush and Yes
Of course he also loves Death Metal bands that I can't stand like Lamb of God  and  Children of Bodem

I would say at least three, maybe a few more. Some of them I lost contact with, so I'm not sure if they still are into prog, It mainly happened in the 70s, when progressive music had more exposure than now. I don't think i have converted anyone these days, though some people like a few tunes, but haven't become prog-heads per say.

IDK to be frank. Fully converted? Probably none. Prog bands I had people turn on to? A lot.

It always seems like this is a major thing that atheism and Prog have in common, always lots of talk of 'converting' or 'enlightening' people.

Why are people so obsessed with this? It always seems like such an obnoxious move to me.

I always thought it was fundamental christians who talked about "converting" people.  Really, this has nothing to do with religion; I've exposed many friends to progressive rock and jazz-rock over the years, and quite a few really loved the music and latched onto it.  Sometimes, with less commercial musical styles, it's merely a matter of exposing people to music they wouldn't normally hear and letting them judge for themselves whether they like it.

Nobody is forcing anyone to listen to prog, it is just another genre of music that you introduce to your friends, it is no difference than hip hop, jazz or heavy metal.

Introducing sure, but converting, sounds like a more forceful and sustained attempt.
