Topic: The Cure vs Radiohead Posted: April 29 2012 at 05:46
im just curious, two bands who is from different decades, who have a strong dedicated following, both bands build music around strong atmospheres and melancholy, both have hints of gloom and goth,
so who is the best band, most influentual, and stuff
I've always preferred the Cure as they were masters of big atmosphere from minimal resources and never frightened to be just a pop band when the mood took them.

Something like this! THey (Or in reality He) have gone from one extreme to another at the drop of a hat! Miserable and alt-twee depending on what t(he)y feel like! I love Lovecats and I love Siamese Twins its all good

Ok computer alone wins it for Radiohead.
Although next album they better have some more variation... King of Limbs felt too long even though it was pretty short, and there wasn't enough going on musically for me.

Do everyone who votes here know the Cure dark trilogy (seventeen seconds, faith & pornography) ? It is far superior to everything Radiohead ever recorded.

I've never listened to Cure, and don't know anything about them except their name. But since they are not listed on Progarchives, I trust that I can safely vote for Radiohead, who are the most progressive rock band of the last 15 years.

Seventeen Seconds and Faith are superb albums. Took me a while to get into Faith. Constant playing. For that reason I will vote The Cure. (being not on progarchives is irrelevant)

I love both these bands. Saying that Cure's dark trilogy is far superior to everything Radiohead ever recorded is just fanboy talk. I agree with OT Räihälä's opinion about the latter band, but only since year 2000 and Kid A.
The Cure didn't experiment on the level that Radiohead has done, but in the early 80's I guess they had a similar position. Releasing both extremely catchy pop and pretty out there stuff such as this...
... as singles and still scoring minor hits and selling albums. Worth checking out.
