Just read that Hackett is in discussions with Marillion's Steve Rothery about working together, although its very early days it sounds great to me, does anyone think their styles will gel on an album? anyone excited by this?

Who knows? Just like Transatlantic fro Pete Trewavas, it would be a good excuse for Rothery to rediscover his real prog-rock roots, and for Hackett, also a good excuse to deliver a real prog-rock partnership. His tenure with Howe was an extension of Asia (GTR) and his tenure with Squire is not turning out that exciting for teh average prog rock lover(since his Conspiracy days, Squire is just a pop-rock bass star, not a real prog rock personality anymore).
Let's hope...

It will definitely be more interesting than Squackett. As long as they don't call it Hackery.

Recent interview Steve said he is busier with his career then he's been in his entire life--and I'm believing it--he's got a lot of balls in the air.

Wow, two of my favourite guitar players with a mutual approach to playing their instrument.
This shall be interesting to say the least. |

This has a lot of potential. It could go in either of two directions: the best of both or the lowest common denominator. Too often such collaborations end up as the latter (let's not forget GTR). If they reject the name Hackery, maybe they would call it Rockett. Actually, that might be worse.

Sounds interesting to me as well! But I don't understand why people pick on GTR so much. To me, the GTR album was great (four stars from me!) and better than both Asia's 80's albums and Yes' 90125 and Big Generator.
What about Hackett + Squire + Rothery?

I like GTR too---great guitar work----BUT---it's flaws (the singer and production) nearly ruin it for me.

Well, it's not the 80's anymore, and both of these guys have total creative freedom in their main projects. So I don't really seem them doing something "commercial" or tame. On the other hand, it may not be prog in the sense that many here understand the term. We'll just have to wait and see, but this has piqued my interest already.

Rother's is not really prog anymore; more like "alternative" since he joined "The Steve Hogarth Project"

When Hackett works with other Steve's it's a risk.
