I haven't seen that episode yet, but the "More popular but not as good?" line sounds a crack-up, and it's everything I love about the show! A slight cheeky little dig without being too mean!

I remember the line when Bart showed a natural talent for drumming and joined a jazz band, and when he had an injury, he delivered ""I was a great drummer, and now I'm nothing! Just like Phil Collins..."

Bart: The incredible discernible   Music man.
Buddy. I can always count on you for reaching into the Simpsons quote box and coming up with good every time.
Have a great weekend. :)

Always good to see you drop in, Nick!

Hope you're doing well, mate!

The episode was pretty funny, because Bart showed more talent to impress some jazz big-wigs than Lisa did (much to her annoyance!)!

Bart: "Lisa, I need you to teach me all about the world of Juzz."
Lisa: "It's JAZZ!"

I saw on TV tonight an episode of The Simpsons where Homer was in a barbershop quartet and their career was a parody of The Beatles. I laughed so hard when Barney appeared with a tape of "Number 8" with burps LOL

Dreamer by Supertramp was referenced in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (yes, that film...)

and i also remember something while reading the Soul Eater manga (yes, i do that) that the title character was holding a vinyl copy of Miles Davis' Bitches Brew during some sort of flashback. i can't remember where and when it occurred, however.... Cry

^LOL
There's a South Park episode in a similar vein where Timmy becomes the lead singer for "Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld."  Then Phil Collins comes along and convinces him that the band is holding Timmy back.  I laughed so hard.

Don't forget Yes ("Owner of a Lonely Heart" - ok, not a proggy song, but still Yes) on mst3k. Smile The episode was "Final Justice."

And here's one that's way, way off the beaten path.  Behold the double-obscurity of Trevor Rabin, guitarist, combined with Rhythm of the Pride Lands: Music Inspired by Disney's The Lion King.  That's right - it's a sequel to The Lion King's soundtrack.. not the soundtrack to the sequel to The Lion King.  (?!?!?!)

Here are the credits for the first song:
Lyrics and music by Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin and Lebo M
Arranged by Mark Mancina
Lead vocal: Lebo M
Vocal solos: Maxi Anderson, Khanyo Maphumulo, Max ngcobo, Khululiwe Sithole and Rose Stone.
Drums: Simon Phillips
Bass: Abe Laboriel
Guitar: Trevor Rabin
Background vocals: S. African Choir, form S. Africa, and Maxi Anderson, Ron Kunene, Ricky Nelson, Rose Stone, Oren Waters and terry Young, from the U.S.

Which you can treat yourself to here:

Something interesting I came upon in WikiPedia, about Berkeley Breathed’s classic comic strip character Opus the Penguin:

Quote In a 2003 interview with The A.V. Club, Breathed revealed that "Opus was named after a Kansas song." (The band's 1976 album Leftoverture includes the song "Opus Insert" and a suite called "Magnum Opus".) He also added, "If you're too young to know who Kansas was, to hell with you."

Another Genesis reference on primetime TV this season: on the Supernatural episode “There’s No Place Like Home”, Sam and Dean’s FBI-agent aliases are “Gabriel” and “Collins.”

Not really unexpected in my opinion, but Rifftrax, from the guys of MST3K, have made countless jokes about ELP whenever there is a movie/short with a synth-heavy soundtrack.

Not exactly prog, but I remember in the last episode of the classic Brit series The Prisoner The Beatles' All You Need Is Love playing in the background as the lead character is on the run in one segment. Then there was the episode of another Brit import called U.F.O. where some party goers are seen dancing to the Fabs' Get Back.

On tonight’s episode of Late Show With David Letterman, comedian Brian Regan was played on and off with Afterglow by Genesis, presumably at his request. Thumbs Up

Yes' Heart of the Sunrise as a soundtrack of already classic scene in Buffalo'66 the movie (1998), ought to be mentioned again...

I like the part where he hurts himself trying to drum along to Bruford.
