^ So they should be slaves of 12's (inches to a foot), 8's (fluid oz. to a cup), etc.

Great, my neighbors seem to be ready to party for a long part of time (1:30 in Paris right now).
I can't wait for them beginning to work (students or doing part-time jobs, I don't know, but they are tiresome). |

Excuse me, sir, do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, Neptune, god of the Sea?

Cups are clever because they are proportional and work for liquid and bulk solids. They don't care whether they are metric or imperial or avoirdupois.
It's odd how no one ever came up with a metric system for angles - degrees, radians and gradians are all non-decimal systems. Of course the reason for that is 10 can only be divided by 2 and 5, which is rubbish.
As easy as the metric system looks, it's actually not that good for metal arithmetic requiring division, and that's where the old mixed-radix imperial systems came from - the quick calculation of division. American's aren't dumb because they can divide any weight by 10 just by shifting the decimal point just like any "metric" user can, but they can also divide by 2, 4, 8 16, 32. And in length not only can they divide by 10 by shifiting the decimal place, they can divide a length by 2, 3, 4 and 6 without the need for a pocket calculator.

My first world problems usually involve companies doing things that are annoying, such that I have to call a number and speak to a human being. When it's reached that point, they've already failed.

When I lived in Israel we had no air conditioning, we only had portable fans wafting hot air around. It was pretty bloody terrible trying to sleep at night in summer.
