We bought The Riddle album back in the 80s but I can't remember much of it and never bought another Kershaw album, so no vote from me. However, The Riddle single was very good:

I think the debute is also good, it is sort of taking of the clues the Police left out, and moved the style forward

Can't say I'm a fan. Some of the singles were Ok. Would never buy an album. Not interested in the least.

Even working with Tony Banks couldn't help make me like him, musically i don't know much outside his 80's stuff, music is a bit too cheesy pop for my tastes and i hate his voiceConfused

I remember liking his singles, even as a teen metalhead, so he must have had something going for him. It's all relative of course. A lot of 80's chart music, particularly early 80's, was far superior musically to what I hear these days. Bands like Duran Duran were gifted song writers and musicians compared to much of the dross and drek I hear vomitting out of the radio all day at work.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I've always liked his harmonies in his songs, even those that were quite simplistic. In his 80's pop icon days, songs like Bogart, Gone to Pieces, Cloak And Dagger, Human Racing from the Human Racing album, Don Quixote, Know How, Easy, Roses, Save the Whale from The Riddle were more complex than one would expect it, and it wasn't obvious. I'm sure that was what Tony Banks saw in him too.

I'm sure it was Nik K who liked Gentle Giant in the late-70's, or caught them live around this time.....??

Wouldn't It Be Good is a minor classic, one of the best instrumental solos around. I did have the album once (Human Racing, I think), it's probably still in the loft somewhere. Quite a talented guy, I seem to remember his record company tried to make him a bit of a teeny hero and made him wear a snood.

Yes, The Riddle is very good album. I like also the song I Wanna Change The World from Tony Banks, which sung by Nik Kershaw. I think that his style of composing is recognizable in The One And Only by one-hit wonder Chesney Hawkes. Smile

he audtitioned for lead gutiarist for Deep Purple, he thought himself good/tallented enough to replace Blackmore in DP, so he got some confidence on his Ax skills
