A thread for the most abrasive, aggressive, intimidating, and also one of the best, black metal bands I've been exposed to. Considering their absolute extreme Satanic beliefs (which I'm not sure how serious they are. Read this: http://imageshack.us/f/152/northernheritagebmzine2wq3.jpg/), they might be against... I don't know... any sort of appraisal, maybe? I don't know. So I will wash them with hearts and love and happy things, just because I love their music like Strawberry milkshakes and Apples with honey and other such sweet things.

Stuff:

and other such stuff. Share your bubbly sweet love to these adorable folks.

Well I usually donīt pay much attention to lyrics and if I did I wouldnīt be offended by their religious beliefs. I like their challenging and chaotic sounding black metal. Itīs the kind of music you have to be in the mood for, to really appreciate though. If it catchtes me on the wrong foot the bandīs music can be quite a stressful experience.

^ Their lyrics are surprisingly well thought-out and deep. When I actually read them it adds a whole new layer to the music. And yes it can be quite stressful, but not a lot of music can succeed in making me this scared and anxious, which is another reason I listen to them so much.

It's the only black metal band that actually does sound twisted, the rest tends to sound too cheesy.

Nice find on the magazine interview, frippism. Looks like it's from their very early days and as I understand it they've evolved a lot as a band since then and seem a bit more measured in their public statements. (I love me some black metal, but I completely despair of the eviller-than-thou pissing contests that so many black metal musicians feel obliged to get into, and that interview's a good example of it - I literally can't tell whether the band believed the goofy stuff they were saying then or whether they were just trying to be the grimmest kids on the block.)

Either way, I really liked Fas so I will probably check out their other albums in due course.

My favorite is when he calls "organized" Satanism an excuse for life lovers to gather and be happy like f**king hippies.

If you're in a state, where Satanists look like hippies, you're probably more a Satanist than Satan himself :O.

I support blatant philosophical satanism in my music, so I support Deathspell. Definite one of the best black metal bands around.

Have you listened to Dodecahedron's latest yet? They're basically the same band but with more w**k.

Hahah I love Deathspell. I haven't seen their lyrics but their interviews are funny as hell to read. I still think Kvarfoth is funnier.

It's pretty good, but they sound like an obvious Deathspell ripoff. But I'm way excited for the new Deathspell EP coming out soon. It's gonna be dope.

Blatant (adjective): completely lacking in subtlety/ done openly and unashamedly.
Philosophical (adjective): of or relating to the study of fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and existence.
Satanism (noun): the worshiping of Satan, typically involving a travesty of Christian symbols and practices.

Any links for those interviews? Sounds interesting.

Also the YT links don't seem to be working for me, anybody else have this problem?

I love their more recent music, Fas--Ite is one of my favourite albums and Paracletus is almost as good.

Fas-Ite is the best along with Chaining the Katechon or w/e its called.

If you are huge fans of Deathspell I reccommend Thy Catafalque. VERY VERY good black metal. Start with their first couple of albums to hear some traditional stuff but every album they release they begin to add more atmosphere and experimentation. A good example of a black metal band expanding and growing with every release. Not quite as Gorgutsy crazy as deathspell but heavy as heck nonetheless.

Specifically try their 3rd album. First track is black metal... second track starts out extremely weird with electronica and strange female ghosts.

Even though Kenose is considered an EP, it's 37 minutes long and so I consider it currently my favorite along with Fas-Ite
