 Hello everyone!
Ok, this is gonna be difficult, but i'm gonna give it a try;) You guys know the "sunshine-pop band" Pilot from Scotland? I guess you didn't connect them with Prog yet? To me, they are definitely an arty band, flirting with jazz and orchestral music. David Paton, the singer of Pilot, also sang with the Alan Parsons Project(like on the brilliant "Children of the Moon") and their single "Magic" is often confused to be from ELO. Artrock, in a Supetramp/CityBoy kind of way that is!
A couple of tracks to make my point:
Their hit single "Magic" driven by great Supertrampstyle piano and string arrangement.
From their second album, lyrically not to great but what musicianship!
Some weird funk thing going on here
My personal favorite, with full orchestral backup. A popsong, certainly, but one that draws from jazz and oldies music as influences;)
Another bouncy track that'll put a smile on your face!
One of their most arty tracks.
A beautiful ballad and the perfect closer.
I would understand if you didn't call this art rock at all, I'm only making a suggestion(for me bands like Abba made some true art rock songs as well!). BUT, the keyboard player of Pilot, who left the band after their third album, made a genius prog album in 1976, called "Solo Casting", with stunning use of orchestra on the entire LP. His inclusion in PA is kind of a must for me;) A couple of tracks:
Crazy rendition of a Pilot song, takes me to unknown hights.
      Full-blown heavily classical inspired instrumental
A highlight, with mad piano playing and crazy vocals on top, njum njum njum.
   Beautiful song with unexpected twists
A hommage to far west saloon music as a funny closer.
Hope you like it!!!!

What a blast from the past! Clap

I like it. But don't take it too seriously, I'm slightly drunk right now. Cool

As for the PA inclusion, this is not too far from Die Flippers. Hmm...Krautrock?
