I'm certainly not a prog newbie and yet I'm frequently humbled at how much prog music is out there which I don't know.
I did the following test: at a random moment I checked in the home page the "last 50 reviews" and classified them in the following 3 categories:
1. I know the album well (meaning I don't just know about it, but I have it or at least I have listened to it a few times and know it well).
2. I know the band well but not that particular album. Again, this means not just having heard about the band, but being really familiar with some of their albums, just not the one being reviewed. If I have heard the album just once or twice occasionally but I am not really familiar with it, but I know the band well, I use this category and not #1.
3. Not familiar with the album neither with the band. Again, having heard about the band does not count, here the meaning is that even if I know about the band or I have heard a couple of tracks by them, if I am not really familiar with their output they come into this category.
When I have checked this at a random moment I got these results:
1. I know the album well: 13 (26%)
2. I know the band well but not the reviewed album: 10 (20%)
3. I am not really familiar with the band at all: 27 (54%)
This makes me really humble
Check the "last 50 reviews" and make your own statistics:
1: x %
2: y%
3: z %

Helps that there were a few Yes and King Crimson albums. There are a number in category 1 that I own and have only listened to once or twice, so could possibly be category 2.

My results came out almost the same as yours: 1. 28% 2. 20% 3. 52% Just a one-album flip-flop from #1 to #3 and we'd be identical. It is amazing sometimes to ponder just how much music is out there, most of which I will probably never hear. |

1. Know the album well - 9/50 = 18%
2. Know the band well but not the album - 12 / 50 = 24%
3. Don't know the band or the album - 29/50 = 58%
whew, adds up to 100%

It's not the volume, it's the vigor. And yes, I am continually humbled, but at least that means there's always something to discover.

1. 5 (10%)
2. 6 (12%) 3. 39 (78%) The results would have been much worse if some guy hadn't submitted five Queensryche reviews. |

I decided to do it a little differently:
Of The Past 50 Reviews... 2 (4%) of the reviews are ones I wrote. 5 (10%) of the reviews are for albums I have reviewed (not including the ones I wrote) 1 (2%) of the reviews are for albums I have listened to, but not reviewed. 14 (28%) of the reviews are for bands I am familiar with, but unfamiliar with the album 10 (20%) of the reviews are for bands I have heard of, but never listened to. 18 (36%) of the reviews are for bands I have never heard of before! Actually, that is pretty humbling.

Interesting variation
It seems that having over 50% albums by bands you may have heard of but never listened to or simply never heard of at all is not so unusual as I had initially thought. Humbling anyway but it's nice to know that I'm not alone

BTW, it's not allowed to make the test right after having posted 40 reviews in a row
