She had her moment in the mid late 70's. Really dug " Daddy Cool" and even Jon & Vangelis's " State Of Independeance" RIP DS

While not wishing to start a prog/not prog debate, she showed an admirable sense of adventure in her music. The side long song "Love to love you baby" had a basic structure along the lines of "Close to the edge". Girogio Mauroder's production and use of electronic sounds were new and exciting and we should not under estimate Summer's ability to write a good song. Try "Queen for a day" from "Once upon a time" for an example of a wonderful album track.
RIP Donna, your music will live on for sure.

RIP Donna. Yes, disco sucked. But she was so much more. My lifelong love and obsession with synth-pop began with I Feel Love. Those pulsating synths were so perfect with her voice floating over them. Think about it...the driving incessant pulse of the synths, and her voice hovering above and then coming down into the mix. Maybe not prog, but truly progressive. She gave us much special music.

Sad news. RIP Donna.
I'm going to stick my prog neck on the line here, and say I marginally prefer her version of 'State of Independence' to the Jon & Vangelis original. It's certainly better produced. The original sounds like it was recorded in a plastic lunchbox. Runs for cover... |

Well made & produced "disco" was so much more than the word itself suggests & Donna Summer recorded & released the real cream of the crop.
Donna Summer, a true 1970s icon - RIP |

Agreed. I prefer her version of State of Independence above the original by a wide margin.
RIP.
