I tried A Little Man... a couple times and was never able to get into it; it just sounded silly, annoying, and trite to my ears.  But right now I'm listening to Sing to God and enjoying it immensely.  I've always wanted to like them, but it seems that they're just starting to click with me.

Looking forward to listening to the rest of them!  I think I'll try A Little Man... again next.

I felt like that at first.  The secret is to not judge the album on RES k

R.E.S. is (one of?) their best song(s) in my opinion.

Well, now that I have an appreciation for Sing to God, I think I will be able to listen to A Little Man... with more open ears.

On Land and in the Sea is a nice midway point between what I've always viewed as the two main Cardiacs phases (though each album definitely has its own personality). As people have said though, buy everything they've done and everything from any band vaguely related to them, and at once become enlightened. I used to think Guns was weak, but after a while it's really grown on me and the whole Americana vibe on it works pretty well. The Garage Concerts are great for their new arrangements of very early material which is otherwise only available on abysmal quality cassette tape recordings.

In particular, I think The Display Team are a really fantastic Cardiacs-esque band. Drones is an amazing album.

"A Little Man And A House And The Whole World Window" is my personal favorite, though I have yet to hear "Heaven Born And Ever Bright" and "Guns". I would personally recommend "On Land And In The Sea", which was the first album that made me truly like them. "Sing To God" is another good choice.

I got A Little Man and On Land on the albums being rereleased, really enjoying both of them, slightly ahead of Sing To God for me.
