Do you also put an album to play and just sit and listen to it without doing anything.... or listen to it while you are at the computer?

I realized I couldn't enjoy my music much when I am the computer or doing something, specially when I hear a new album... I just can't assimilate it.

So, if you do the ritual, how many hours you spend listening to music?

Does napping count as doing something? Wink

That's one of my favorite things to do - take an afternoon nap while listening to something.  Quite often, I'll develop a much deeper appreciation of whatever I listen to, so I make my selection wisely.

Unfortunately, my busy home life means I don't get to nap very often.

I used to do that a lot when listening to ambient.

I do this more often than I used to just to make time.

Maybe all of the above happened because I was focusing on the masterworks on the first few listens. Now I don't explore as much.

Just focusing on music and nothing else - only if I'm on the bus to school or home. That would be 40 mins/day.
Freaking out to music - 40-80 mins/month.
Listening to music and doing something at the computer - about 120 mins/day.
Listening to music and doing something in the kitchen - 2-5 mins/6 months.
Listening to music and doing homework - 40 mins/day.

I listen to easily about a hour and a half of music a day, maybe two hours.

I never do anything else when i listen to music, just sit and take it in. I want to focus totally on the music at hand-it is better that way.Thumbs Up

Well seeing as how Music is my personal television... I much prefer to concentrate soley on music with no earthly interventions (aside fromthe occasional musical spasms) So an hour or two a day during the work week and 4ish hours a day on days off are spent completley enraptured by the music.

Sto0pid real life is everpresent though and therefor I spend a fair amount of time listening to stuff while I'm otherwise engaged. Due to commuting and having to drive on the job at times I spend about 3 hours a day driving and listening. Chores galore like anyone responsible for themsleves so another 2-3 hours a day listening while I cook/clean/maintain.

Unfortunately with my current situation I can only listen to CDs in my car. I try and do nothing while driving but everyone else on the roads is such a pain. Angry

Most of the time I usually listen to Music on my iPod at home and driving to places (school, stores, friends, etc). At home, I try to listen to an album without any distractions as much as I can, whether that be on my iPod or my CD player. A lot of the time I search up live footage of bands on youtube and listen there.

I don't do anything while listening to an album for the first few times, but then I just use the computer for ones I'm more familiar with

Utterly unanal about my listening habits.  I listen at work, driving, the gym, on the computer at home, etc.  New albums get heavy rotation for about a month, sometimes I sit down and listen sometimes not.

It reminds me of people who worship LPs and lament the loss of the sit down and listen that the format would force you into.  Oddly enough the advent of surround sound mixes is bringing back the necessity.

Most times I'm occupied at something else. The times I truly get to just listen is on the bus. That's why I hate it when I go on the bus with friends- you're ruining music time!

But at home a lot the times I'm either at the computer or studying. Sometimes I just sit and listen. But because music is almost constantly there, I say I digest a good 4-5 hours of music a day.

I rarely get the time to listen to CDs on the speaker and doing absolutely nothing else.   I usually load them onto my IPod and listen to music during my commute.  It is not really an impediment to absorbing the music for me.  Yes, if I was working on the computer and trying to listen, I wouldn't be able to concentrate on both and I usually don't listen to a new album like that.

I listen to music 8 hours everyday while I work. This is considered passive listening and I mostly just jam the mp3s that are on progarchives.

I focus the most when I am driving because it is actually allowed to be at the volume that I want. My family doesn't like music so I can't listen to anything while I am at home. Thumbs Down

Most of the time I got to my friends house and work in their studio and on my own music about 2 hours everyday when I work, and 4-8 hours a day on the weekends. This includes my time spent writing out sheet music.

I used to have rituals when I had my own place and could actually friggin enjoy music without being yelled at or told that my music tastes suck. But that's all gone now.

I do the ritual, especialy i love to put on a good album, weekend mornings, sit in my best chair, and just listen.
Cigarettes Coffe and not thinking about anything but the music from the album chosen.
Not allways possible, but i do this 2-3 times a month.

Most other times im doing stuff like ,reading PA, working, cooking, or even dancing with myself.
In those situations i listen a lot to random play. I like the sudden changes in style.

I normally listen to music when I'm sitting at my computer, reading news articles, or studying. However, I don't really absorb the music much when I do any of that, so my favorite way to listen to music is when I'm lying in bed trying to get sleepy. I normally lie in bed for 2-4 hours before I can actually fall asleep, so I might as well drift into some tunes.

I generally sit and listen while I internet, if I listen without doing anything else I generally get too fidgety and can't enjoy the music.

That is so sad. You have my sympathy.

I'm often listening music when doing something else - working on a computer, cooking, driving my car, etc.

However, if I dedicate myself to listening, I can't be still and sitting down. I'm standing. Often walking around the room. I dunno why. I feel like I'm perceiving music better.
