Thought this might be kind of interesting.
What artists, prog or otherwise, toured with your favorite prog band/artist?  Either as an opening act,or one your fave prog artist opened for. It can be a concert you have personally seen,or just read about.
Please keep the fave prog artist to a single favorite, or maybe two or three of your top favorites.

 My favorite prog artist-      Triumvirat

 Acts that toured with Triumvirat
                                                  -Fleetwood Mac
                                                  -Nektar
                                                  -Caravan
                                                  -ELO
                                                  -Grand Funk Railroad
                                                  -Supertramp
                                                  -Little Feat

those are the ones i currently know about

Kansas opened for the Doors and for Zappa back in their early days.  Either one of those would have been worth seeing.

Saddest opening act was probably Quarterflash for Loverboy around 1982 or so.  Rindy Ross came out with her saxophone and a bottle of Jack, and was so wasted she could barely stand up let alone sing.

Also saw a redneck band in Helena Montana in the early 80s who had a midget guitarist in a white tuxedo.  Can't even remember what show that was but I think it was David Allen Coe.  Figures...

Genesis, Van Der Graaf and Lindisfarne toured together in 1971 for the famous Charisma Package Tour. Nine major gigs were booked in England; at the time, Van Der Graaf were the most commercially successful and recognized, but that would soon change as this was the tour that Genesis really became promoted.

I read in the autobiographical book, Genesis: Chapter And Verse, that all three bands shared the same tour bus and schedule. It was funny, Phil was saying that if you wanted to have a conversation about life, death and questions about the universe, you went to the Van Der Graaf side of the bus. If you wanted to have a go at crosswords and board games, you went to the Genesis side. If you wanted to have a pint and a chat about football, you went to the Lindisfarne territory. LOL

Genesis is my favourite band of all time and Van Der Graaf are one of my favourites. I've never heard Lindisfarne, but I should give them a chance in the near future.

I saw Rush in the spring of 1977, and at that time in Canada, Max Webster opened for them. In the same year, they toured Europe, at times with Max Webster as well.

^^That is interesting, Richard.

I read that in 1972 in America, they played concerts with the Mahavishnu Orchestra. (Don't know who opened for who)

Funny enough, my bass teacher from the U.S. was in a band that opened for Rush real early in Rush's career.

I saw Curved Air open for Emerson, Lake & Palmer at the Fillmore East in 1971.  And I also saw Buddy Miles open for King Crimson around 1973 in Central Park, NYC.  But the show I missed and wished I had seen was a tour, Mahavishnu Orchestra opened for Frank Zappa.  I know this showed played at Madison Square Garden in NYC.

In 1970 Miles Davis opened for Neil Young and Steve Miller Band at the Fillmore East. That's just plain wrong!

When Miles went electric he wanted young hip Afro Americans to shake their booty to his 20 minute funk epics, but no such luck. Instead got some new fans amongst the hippies.

Around the same period he opened for Grateful Dead and Laura Nyro too.

I know that Marillion opened for Rush at one time, but it was prior to my time.  Since I started going to their concerts, I saw Mr. Big, Eric Johnson and Primus open for them.  In recent years though, they have just been opening for themselves by doing one set, taking a prune juice break, and then returning for a second set.

If they ever build a time machine, I will travel back to March 28, 1986 Joe Louis Arena. Detroit, Michigan (Marillion)

I am pretty sure I saw that tour.  I also saw the Alan Parsons Project open for Yes on the Open Your Eyes tour.  Not sure if I can remember any other bands playing with them.  Maybe Styx?
