Hello proggers, It was really a question for me about Maneige music especially in the index, I love this band and their music in undeniable for every progressive fans, especially for their masterpiece album, Les Porches.
The thing is, This band is marked as Jazz Rock/Fusion, I'm very agree that they are heavily influenced by Jazz music and such, but their music is highly impressed and reflects of Classical music, for their long piano solos and orchestral parts. They are more Classical and Eclectic rather than "Jazzy".
But they did not limit themselves in any aspect, they went from Classical, Jazz, Rock, and many other styles, and their music is highly complex, the combined Classical and Jazz elements with standard progressive styles and pushed the boundaries once again.
To put in a nutshell, In my opinion, they should be categorized as Eclectic Prog rather than only Jazz Rock/Fusion. Because of their music, they have combined and summarized many styles, instruments and made influence on other Quebec based progressive bands.
Their first two albums completely agree with me, both Maneige and Les Porches are highly Eclectic and complex, their later albums took away from those long classical orchestral styles, and become shorter, jazzy but they kept their complexity and eclectic parts.
Just recheck the songs and decide again, here are some very eclectic and complex songs, in my opinion.
Maneige: (Not very powerful album, but worth checking the first track)
1. Le Rafiot
Les Porches: (These two classical compositions are extremely eclectic and complex in their own)
1. Les Porches de Notre-Dame 3. Les Aventures de Saxinette et Clarophone
Ni Vent... Ni Nouvelle:
6. Douce-Amère (One of the long and very eclectic songs, contains many styles ranging from Folk, Jazz, Rock, Classical, ...)
Libre Service - Self-service: (In this album, they combined many elements with progressive rock, I will mention the key ones)
2. L'envol des Singes Latins (Excellent flute and little folk style) 3. Les Pétoncles (Perfect combining of Folk, Jazz & Rock style with powerful keyboard and guitar) 9. Toujours Trop Tard (Perfect Sax, Jazz style with beautiful guitar work, very diverse in genres)
What do you thing, guys? ;)
Thanks, Nima

I never really liked free-form jazz, like Miles Davis and such, (not speaking of Return To Forever and such, majestically built albums there) but there's really a beauty in Orchestral workings. Being that Les Porches has orchestra-style sound, perhaps even a mixture of symphonic prog! And I just wanna say, mad respect for the little-known band Maneige. Fantastic! (A little late on this topic, seems quite dead. But awesome band nonetheless!)
