Never heard it!
I gave up on Rush after 3 disappointments in a row Hold Your Fire Presto Roll the Bones I did get Vapor Trails about two years ago. Don't listen to it often enough to have a detailed opinion, but I like it fairly well. I do plan on getting the new one. Not sure if I'll go back and get the rest of the post-80s releases. Frank |

Much better than any of their 90's releases, though Counterparts is still a good album.
I like it better than Power Windows or Grace Under Pressure, but not Hold Your Fire. I love Alex's approach throughout the album, to me he is the highlighted member for the release. Fantastic release!

Rated it 2 stars and haven't listened since. They are just in a money making mode now, pandering to the least common denominator. All the true spark is gone. I like everything through Counterparts. Just saw Time Machine on Palladia. There's a reason they played all of Moving Pictures and just a few off of S&A.

Solid album. One of their best in many years. Not every song is a gem though.

They have released a lot of albums that aren't quite as crazy as they used to be... but they have the ability to sell most of the albums they make no matter what they release. I love their newer albums as well, but I want something MORRRE.
At this point, I feel like they should make 1 album that's as masturbatory as Tales from Topographic Oceans and go all crazy and bring back the feelings of Cygnus X1, Fountain of Lamneth, and The Necromancer. Voiceovers, trippy noises. I want to hear another Xanadu or something! Yea the new album has some longer songs but I want to see crazy subtitles and all the things that everyone normally hates about prog. Just for their fans that are like me. When I first discovered rush 8 years ago when I was 16, they opened my eyes to prog music and I barely listened to anything else other than their 20 some albums that whole year. I think Neils drumming has gotten even more amazing recently, and I want some crazier music to back it up... I would pay 100 dollars for a copy of a new Rush album that was 80 minutes long and compiled of eight ten minute songs each with 4 movements. I dont care how many solos there are, I dont care how screechy Geddys voice is. I want to have to count every single measure out because they change signatures so much again. Haha. But... if they keep doing what they do i wont be mad or anything, I'll still love it all, I'll just have a little tiny empty feeling inside. It's probably how you feel once you're married for a long time.

You owe it to yourself to at least listen to the 2 instrumentals on that album. Seriously good stuff.

Strangely enough, those are exactly the reasons I liked Snakes and Arrows. I am glad they have moved on from Cygnus X and so forth and decided to do something with more feeling and substance (imo).

For me still a very likeable album. Not as good as the brilliant Vapour Trails, but still a solid three an a half star piece of work I would say.

I always thought the instruments were strong, but the lyrics kinda brought the album down.

Vapor Trails was their craziest, heaviest, and most complex album ever, so I'd say that they are still releasing stuff that rivals the 70's material with regard to "craziness."

S & A had no effect on me when first released...i was just going to put it into the disappointing category along with " Test" and " Vapour " but I persevered and eventually I came to like it. However with the new album coming out and the sheer quantity of other prog stuff to listen to it has kind of drifted away again and i rarely play it

I thought it was very good when it came out. I like it slightly less now, but I still think it is one of the better releases of Rush's modern period.

It's a high *** album. If the weakest three tracks ("Working Them Angels," "Armor and Sword," "The Larger Bowl") were excluded it would be in competition to be the best Rush album ever. The album is really good from "The Main Monkey Business" onward.

If it depends on when I started listening to Rush (which involved their first album, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, those Retrospective compilations, 2112, Signals and Grace Under Pressure), then I have to say that it was one of the last Rush albums that I have listened to in full, even though I listened to individual songs at the same time. I say it's still a pretty excellent album; I enjoy most of the album, so if I had to review it, 4 stars.
As cool as that sounds, considering the band's career, I think it's not really in their method to do an album as such anymore. But hey, who knows. You could get lucky. I really don't remember there being many time signature changes in their prog stuff, aside from like two of the songs you mentioned. Maybe I'm not listening close enough... |

I gave it a 3 star review and was not reallt sure about it. Very professionally done and the songs are good but it lacked spark. I think my view hasn't changed that much over the years. It was a come down after the powerfull Vapor Trails. I havn't played it for a long while though.
