Hey, I was thinking there are bands like Dragonforce and Lord Vicar that include members from different countries, that were set up possibly across international borders. Now I'm finding it very awkward to find musicians interested in playing anything prog, a lot seem into indie or conventional rock but not prog!  So I'm thinking how about setting up a band initally online I guess, to see how it goes and if it goes well, we can agree on a place to rehearse, at that stage it would probably be a serious band, ready to tour etc. I've recorded my own material and would like to play some of it though of course everyone would have equal input into the writing of new songs and I'm totally up for writing new material. I'm 27, play lead guitar, based in Durham, UK. Influences include Queen, The Mars Volta, Pink Floyd, Opeth, Led Zeppelin, Reverend Bizarre, Metallica and NIN.

When we started, we only had 2 people and we were writing music for SIX.

We just said screw it and used a computer on stage.

That would be difficult imo to keep everyone on the same page when you're all far apart... that is, unless you are rich or the bandmates you eventually find are rich. That makes everything easier. I'm pretty sure that's how Dragonforce worked out. ha

Good stuff using a computer on stage. Yeah I dunno, I'd have to use a backing mixdown track for my music,  as there are so many tracks which would defeat the purpose of playing live, plus playing and singing some of the parts are basically impossible for me to do on my own as there would shred soloing and vocals, I know Devin Townsend can do it, somehow...amazingly... Hmm, I would suggest however that by the stage everyone would be in the same place, it would be a serious effort involving touring, not just a hobby band. That's where I would eventually like to take it.

Hi,
I'm a Swedish drummer with 20+ years of experience (cover band - most progressive we've played is Purple's "Burn" and "Perfect Strangers", Queensryche's "Jet City Woman" and several 5-15-minute medleys of songs :D)

I love prog rock/metal though and would really enjoy being part of an online collaboration. Being 35+ with wife and kids I have no dream/intention of touring and I'm not sure how "online rehearsal" would work out practically. I have a digital kit that is available when needed but I would have to get some midi cables and such to record my playing I assume...

Anyway, if your interested in having an experienced drummer - working one year full-time as cover musician back in the days - on board, who can write and play drum parts for your band I think that would be a both fun and rewarding experience.

Although currently practicing "Panic Attack" (Portnoy), I am more experienced playing Rock than Metal.
My main drum influences:
Jeff Porcaro/Simon Phillips (Toto), Portnoy, Lars Ulrich (Metallica) etc.

Would enjoy playing any kind of progressive rock to metal, that is not too extreme or fast (no death metal blastbeats ;))

If this sounds interesting, let me know. I also play some piano and guitar just for fun and have written soundtrack for a hobby video game so I might be able to contribute with some song-writing if wished for as well :)

Best odd-time signature regards
/M

I'm a bass player in search of projects. I also write a lot of music myself. I would be perfectly willing to play some prog. I lnow my musical theory pretty well and I'm going to study in music. I'm only 17 though.
