Peter Gabriel songs that sounds like Genesis

Name a few and explain why you say it is similar or tell us why you think there's no similarities in any.

I think only Hackett has moments on his solo albums that sound similar to Genesis. With Gabriel, I dunno, Moribund The Burgermeister from his first album sounds Genesis-y but I can't really think of anything else at the moment.

 Dude.... you have not heard Tony Banks' solo album  A Curious Feeling have you?  To my ears it IS a Genesis album.

I'll prolly liten to em tomorrow with a new ear, thanks.

Yeah, I forgot about Banks but that's only some songs on his first album. Rutherford has some Genesis-y tracks on his first album too.

Don't know if any one particular song reminds me of Genesis. I think there are some songs that have some little bits of the symphonic in them-Humdrum, Here Comes the Flood. As mentioned by several, Moribund the Burgermeister also has some of that feel. A song like San Jacinto has an interesting progressive feel, but it's not really Genesis. So, I'd say no one song truly reminds me of Genesis, but there are bits here and there.

Very much this. In some cases, it's kind of frustrating. I want to get into some of Gabriel's solo work, but, with a couple of exceptions, it's a pain trying to differentiate between the two. Not helped that Gabriel and Collins have similar voices.

As has been said, much of the first album would have fitted onto a Genesis album, but after that, no.

I say The Family and the Fishing Net is a lot like Genesis. It's fairly lengthy, but most importantly, it's built up out of complex arrangements. The instrumental parts are given periodic deference and are more than a wee bit unusual. Catch the guitar lead once you figure out where it is and that it's actually a guitar playing. Sure you're not going to mistake it for an actual Genesis song, but you can imagine Gabriel bringing something like this to the group, and then when everyone's done with it, it would be an unmistakable old-Genesis style song. Anyone agree?

I also agree, though, that Steve Hackett is the most Genesis sounding. He also remains the most progressive in his approach and philosophy.
