I was hoping to start exploring some more random choices for this edition, but with the relative failure of P.O.O. #3: DVD/Video I think I'll play it safe and throw some more simple ones at you. Do Prog fans not buy videos and DVD's of their favourite bands? Apparently not. Either way, if you didn't post in #3, now's your chance! Here it is; http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=87294.

Along with your selection for today, I'd also appreciate some "fan" feedback. Do you guys want me to continue to play it safe with some simple, obvious choices, or should I start throwing some tougher, more random ideas your way? Or should I just give up and find a new hobby? Let me know, and shape the future of P.O.O.!

People Over Oppression! Ermm

So with that out of the way, let's move on to a role every music fan can appreciate. The Guitar Player.

The rules are simple:

NO HONORABLE MENTIONS!

NO RUNNERS UP!

PICK ONLY ONE!!!

(Violations of these rules will not be tolerated, and offenders will be prosecuted).

And here's mine, a man who needs no introduction on a Progressive Rock website: John Petrucci!

And one final note; I can't believe there are still some people out there who don't get it. Who can't quite grasp the simple concept of a thread series titled "Pick Only One". It's not called "Pick Only One with a Runner Up", it's not "Top Ten List of..."... it's called "PICK ONLY ONE" for a reason! The rules are friggin' simple!!!

To those of you who participate correctly, I thank you, and wish you a good day. To those of you who don't, you are now on my deathlist. You've been warned.

And to answer your question, more random/obscure categories sound good to me. Thumbs Up

Don't get mad at me, that's not a runner up, just had a question about the guy.  Sticking to prog, mine is:

I think you should mix the series up a bit.  Probably do one more basic one and then start throwing in some more obscure stuff, and some fun ones as well.  "Favorite prog hairstyle," "Favorite Peter Gabriel double entendre..." stuff like that.

Well, maybe not the second one.

I think that sort of stuff should be for later-on in the series. A bit like "well I've run out of normal ideas, so let's do some crazy questions."

I feel like they'd attract more people, though, and make them pay more attention to the series, so then once it gets a follwing Valarius can throw in some more quirky but still serious-ish ones.

John plays guitar and supplies some synth work on Cicatriz ESP. I believe he does not play the guitar solos through the song though. He does though, play the first two solos on L'Via L'Viaquez.  He is also noted to play rhythm guitar and some lead on Aputechture, and just "guitar" on bedlam and Octahedron.

You've prolly knew all of this, but honestly i had no prior knowledge of the specific guitar work John does nor could i find anywhere that told me.
