Topic: Foxtrot or Fragile? Posted: June 18 2012 at 02:40 |
Both albums have a one-word name, beginning with the letter F. Both also have a similar rating on PA.

I voted Foxtrot. It features some of Genesis' best songs ever. Fragile does feature some of my fav. Yes songs (Roundabout, Heart of the Sunrise, South Side of the Side), but it's pulled down by the solo pieces, imo.

Both are 5-star albums in my book, but Fragile belongs to the bottom part of this range while Foxtrot is in my top three. So I vote for Foxtrot.

Fragile is 5 stars. Foxtrot is one of those rare cases where I don't agree at all with the general acclaim. 3 stars.

As good as a lot of the material on Foxtrot is, I choose Fragile nevertheless.
Hard to say why. Personal taste, I think.

Definitely Foxtrot. That album actually flows nicely with more thought put in the structure of the pieces. Fragile has its moments, but I've never loved it like everyone else. And all those solo pieces bring it down too.

Foxtrot is brilliant for the most part. Supper's Ready deservedly gets strong praise, but for me Watcher of The Skies and the incomparable Can Utility and the Coastliners are even better.
Fragile has some amazing music: Roundabout, South Side of the Sky and Heart of the Sunrise are amongst the best things Yes did. But the individual members' tracks just let the album down.
So Foxtrot for me.

Fragile is more advanced in regards to sound. I give it the edge and I enjoy the short tracks too. Foxtrot is my fave Genesis album but Supper is probably my 4th fave song on the album. Supper has strong moments but it also has cheesy moments too

Foxtrot, definately! I believe that Fragile is a rather overrated album. I was quite disappointed by it actually.

Foxtrot for me. One of my favorite albums. For me, even the weakest track-Time Table-is still a very good song. Fragile, while also very good has those solo bits that bring it down just a bit.

Genesis is okay, but does not come close to Yes during their peak album period.

Foxtrot is one of my all-time faves. This might have been closer for me if we were comparing it to Close to the Edge. Still would have voted for Genesis though.

Not going to get into choosing one of these great albums over the other. Both albums feature what most listeners consider the "classic" band lineups and both albums have the bands in, arguably, their creative heyday.

Foxtrot; Fragile is, as others have said, brought down somewhat by the solo pieces.
