LOL    That Google translation is absolutely hilarious! Can't stop laughing! LOL

( Besides, I don't ever listen to those late abominations, my preferences are the first five albums, the only ones I own).

I wonder how many Eastern European prog lyricists during the Soviet era got in trouble with the authorities for political reasons. Plastic People of the Universe is the only example I can think of, but there has to be more out there.

I do find "Ladies of the Road" to be racy but I'm not offended by it because the lyrics have a somewhat Comedy Vibe to them.
By the way does anyone find that one Utopia Song called "Hiroshima" to be controversial?
I'm confused as to whether the song is anti war or pro war.

I think the controversial thing about Ladies of the Road is how stupid it is.

One of my favorite folk artists ...always 'controversial' in the things he said about all of us.

Not true Prog but since they have a page here Throbbing Gristle's lyrics are extreme.

I can't help but feel a lot of people underestimate Throbbing Gristle's sense of humour.

I find their music less terrifying and more satirically hilarious in the same vein as The Mothers of Invention. (a noted source of influence) As a matter of fact TG's members absolutely hated the "power electronics" scene they helped to inspire, since that genre usually took the shock elements TG clearly meant as social/political satire and just played it completely straight. At some point Genesis P-Orridge and the late Peter Christopherson even sent death threats to Wm. Bennett from Whitehouse or at least tried to block that group from performing...

That doesn't make the lyrics any less shocking or disturbing.

Plus that isn't entirely true as Genesis and the various other members of TG has done plenty of work with other Industrial/Noise/Power Electronic bands such as Merzbow, Z'ev, and Etant Donnes.

I guess that's up to the individual listener, then... I find satirically disturbing lyrics like Zappa's or TG's less so than straight-faced treatments of the same material.

Quote Plus that isn't entirely true as Genesis and the various other members of TG has done plenty of work with other Industrial/Noise/Power Electronic bands such as Merzbow, Z'ev, and Etant Donnes.

Seems like it's less Power Electronics in general they had a beef with than just Whitehouse in specific, then. Those folks certainly had a knack for getting even oldschool industrial noiseniks morally indignated. Oh, and apparently it was Monte Cazzaza not any of the TG members who sent death threats to WH. Sorry for getting them mixed up.

That reminds me, I'm still flabbergasted that Sickness of Snakes ever got off the ground considering Peter Christopherson and Boyd Rice's political views couldn't be further apart. (Genesis is to this day still friends with Boyd, though)
