my parents were hippies and listened to all kinds of crazy stuff, including prog, I grew up with it and with Mahler, Stravinsky, Ravel, Bach and many other composers. also with Indian ragas. so I came to like it at an early age. as a kid I was probably stoned all the time due to the billows of sweet smoke at our home

I've only known a couple women who like Prog in all my years, and they weren't really avid about it. A bit strange really. There are plenty of women who are music majors in college with sophisticated tastes. I haven't known many who are much into Jazz either, come to think of it. It always seems to be either pop/rock or some form of classical for women I've known.

The correct prog answer to the question -

Man or woman?

is hermaphrodite.

Then on the other hand I might just have to agree with mamofmystery on something.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

The only woman I know who likes prog is my gf... She had a solid rock base and the only prog band se knew or liked before is Pink Floyd. Now she's a total progger like me, which make our relationship a lot pleasant and funnier Tongue

I am a man but I know women who like prog, at least on the internet. In real life nobody.

For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.

I'm a fellow, but as far as acquaintances go, I'd say it's pretty even between genders that are familiar with prog, though the number's quite small.

I sort of remember this girl from Czechoslavakia that mentioned Prog a number of times (had something to do with where she grew up...). Yeah, apparently she was into Prog when she was young, and then she emigrated into Vancouver.

I'm a girl who lives in a forgotten part of the world and have few relations. I only know (personally) one girl who likes prog and no one else. But there are a great quantity of boys and girls on Last fm who enjoy the genre. Smile

I'm a man, and personnaly I know only a few women who listen to prog (but not much less than men). However I saw Opeth, band that represents for me what the prog scene has of better nowadays, twice in concert and there were quite a lot of women Smile

I am a man who listens to prog married to a woman who listens to prog. I don't really care what anyone else listens to.
