I've selected a few gentle songs (if you want, ballads) from Gabriel's era of Genesis, eliminating the first album and some songs from the last album, which although they start out as a ballad, but then continue in a faster pace.

Tie between Dusk and Harlequin. Voted Harlequin for it's intricate 12 strings and surreal lyrics - one of my favourites from Nursery Cryme.

"For Absent Friends", easily, no contest, blah-blah-blah, ... .

This is hard because I love all of these songs to death, except More fool Me. I'm voting Harlequin although tomorrow the answer could be totally different.

If a leaf has fallen,
Does the tree lie broken? And if we draw some water, Does the well run dry? The sigh of a mother, The screaming of lovers. Like two angry tigers, They tear at each other. See how for him, lifetime's fears disappear. |

Time Table has the best bass line, (and one of Mikes best, most melodic, unpredictable and diffcult yet simple bass lines)

Voted for Dusk. For Absent Friends would be a second option.

Voted Cuckoo Cocoon - just beating Dusk.
I think More fool me and Time table are the two weak links on their respective albums.

Dusk followed by For Absent Friends (don't such friends always come second?). For a soft instrumental, you can't beat Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats.
