I've been listening to Comus recently and this is a whole new trippy world of music for me. Can someone recommend any other bands or albums that have that 'acid folk' / 'freak folk' sound, somewhat reminiscent of 'First Utterance?'
Thanks |

^i haven't heard that one. I'd recommend Spirogya. Also International String Band, Pentangle, and Forest are worth looking into.

Spires That In The Sunset Rise - Four Winds, The Walker often gets likened to First Utterance. |

Lisa o Piu recorded a live album with Roger Wootten of Comus a couple years ago that includes some Comus covers. Some already mentioned Spires That in the Sunset Rise, a great acid folk band. Nirvana was decent but not exceptional. I like Long Live Death, although they're more subdued than Comus. Faun Fables are pretty good but nowhere near as dark as Comus. And Cerberus Shoal's last album 'The Land We All Believe In' is pretty acid folksy. Also check out Larkin Grimm.

BTW, if you like DDD, you should try Ben &Vesper. Their albums are not very good, but their mini albums "More questions" and "Luvindleness" are great

I suggest Jan Dukes: "Mice and Rats in the Loft" and Gnidrolog's first album, "In Spite of Harry's Toe-nail". Maybe even give The Decemberists "Hazards of Love" and Storm Corrosion a shot.
Happy listening! Edited by Zombywoof - July 06 2012 at 20:40 |
