I like this set of albums a lot. Maybe the strangest thing about this list is that Elton Dean is on two of the albums mentioned but NOT the Soft Machine one.

Aaww man - this is just impossible...

I really have no clue here. Wyatt, Zyma, Volare, Travelling and that amazing Keith Tippett! Yeah, well - I can't choose right now.

I love End of an Ear and think it had a big part in shaping the impending RIO movement. Thrilling album to say the least!

Zyma and Volare passionately prove that Canterbury needn't come from Britain - to be riveting. Zyma is brilliantly caffeine soaked music with lost of fun boy attitudes. Reminds me of Tom & Jerry. Volare is more meatier and got that powerful rhtyhm section too.

And then that Tippett one.... On the verge of Canterbury, although slightly edging that ever so infectious and experimental Miles' vibe. What's not to love?

Like I said, I really can't choose at the momentLOL

Well said David as usual.
Yeah this is tough but i went with Zyma.
Elton Dean is in that Keith Tippett Group band along with several Soft Machine members. He's also in Wyatt' solo album here as is David Sinclair on the organ.
I love that French band Travelling as well and the live Soft Machine is one of my favourite live albums by the band.

Weasels...I'm probably coming off as more of a Zappa fanboy than I really am, because half the time I don't know most of the other albums. LOL

I'll never criticise anyone who picks Zappa in a poll. I think this album is really under-rated myself. I really like The Orange County Lumber Truck. Very melodic.

Damnit.

I would totally give a vote to TEOAE (as I feel it's a drastically underrated album) but Weasels is included. Just loses out to One Size Fits All as my favorite Zappa album, and I'm inclinded to vote for it here.

I only have Weasels. One of my favorite Zappa albums now,  I didn't like it that much on first listen.

Of the ones I know, which are the Zyma,  Volare, Wyatt, and Zappa ones, I have a particular thing for End of an Ear.  When I first got it, I guess I didn't really get it, or maybe because I knew it was rated lowly somehow I didn't pay ittenough attention.  Or actually, I think it was that Rock Bottom is what got me into Wyatt, and actually I guess it's that it is so different from that, that it wasn't quite what I was expecting, and so it rather fell on deaf ears. I returned to it later, and really loved it .  It's a superb album, I think.

I have listened to only 3 of those, but British Tour just rocks. John Etheridge is a blast on that album.

I would have been surprised if you didn't pick Wyatt here Greg. It's almost a shock to see it winning though even though i think it's a great album. Lets face it it's not that popular sadly.

Hey I couldn't bear seeing such a stunning album get overlooked. I mean, it proves that you Americans were up to something quite imaginative, during a time where Canterbury was hibernating in its home country.

It was between this and Zyma for me. The Bundles tour with Etheridge playing guitar as you mentioned. Killer live album.
