For those who have listened to Echolyn's second eponymous album, I invite you to vote for your favorite of the octet.

For those who have not, what are you waiting for?  Stream it all here for free and let us know what you think!  Big smile

Ah man, this is killing me, a five-star record for sure, hard to single out a particular track.

I'll say When Sunday Spills but that might change.

I've never been really fond of Echolyn.  It's okay but doesn't stand out much to me.

Great 5-star album, 2012's masterpiece so far (and one of the best of the 21st century until this day, I think).

1. Some Memorial
2. Island
3. When Sunday Spills
4. Locust to Bethlehem

Glad i'm not the only one. It really bothers me that a band that i respect for their lyrics didn't include them in the liner notes. Normally i could care less about lyrics but there are certain bands who write such good songs like Echolyn where i do pay attention to them. And i know i can probably find them on the internet but that's not the point. I think it's a good album but maybe it's just been overhyped i don't know. I'll keep listening though because they say it's a grower.

Will have to listen to it at least one more time before I can make up my mind. Perhaps I'll do it later today. Anyways, I'll be back.

Just in case you're curious, you can go here, mouse over the song title, and the link for the lyrics will appear.  But I get your frustration.

A very pleasing album. The ending to "Island" is perhaps the best thing they ever did, it's a shame it fades out too early.

Island, Past Gravity and Some Memorial are my favorite for now, but I should listen to it some more.

Thanks Robert. Like i said with most bands i wouldn't care but these guys know how to write a good song. I'll check it out.

I'd say Some Memorial, I've had the line "Take a headful of seeds/ and a mouthful of dirt/ lie down/ become a garden" playing in my head for weeks now Big smile It's such a great song in many ways. Island, Speaking In Lampblack and Headright are very very good as well. Strangely the other songs don't hit me nearly as well as those, so I gave it 4 stars.
You love the music, the music loves you!

Two lines keep resonating with me:

One is Ray's hopeful negativity:

"Don't give another day to this."

And another is Bret's hopeless positivity.

"Love will make you wait till you're found; it carries you home."

This album is much more laid back than The End Is Beautiful--I wonder if it reflects their maturing over the intervening seven years. The slower tempos are much more prominent on this one.

But my favorite track is Island. I love the melodic part at 13 minutes. And this lyric:
To me you are an island; a line where the sky meets the sea.

I think about the sea as a symbol of chaos, the sky as heaven--and the island as the meeting point between the two. Nice!

"I have seen the broken sky turn blue."

Still need to listen to this.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

This is such a beautiful record. So much going on, yet the melodies stick in your head.

I voted Lampblack. It moves me like no other. That will change.

Did I mention how great this album is?
