Sad news indeed.  It sounded pretty dire when they announced that he had pancreatic cancer, but I was hoping he would beat it.  RIP.

Well, 71 years isn't exactly a short life for a rock musician, all things considered..........but still far too soon.  He will be missed.

Very sad news. We have lost a true elder statesman of music.

The website says "It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jon Lord, who suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism today, Monday 16th July at the London Clinic, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was surrounded by his loving family."

Well, now Heaven's rock band now has a great keyboardist to augment Rick Wright's atmospheric playing. RIP.

His re-recording of Concerto for Group and Orchestra (featuring the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Joe Bonamassa, Steve Morse etc) is released in September  and will hopefully serve as a fitting tribute to this great musician.

Broken Heart
Saw the man play back in 1998. He was a true force of nature. I've honestly never heard anything like it in my life - and that Hammond organ... man that Hammond organ.
I'll pop on one of the first Deep Purple albums in his honour tonight. Rest in peace Jon - and my heart goes out to your family.

That's a bummer. He was one of my favorite organists.
