Topic: The Modern Epics Part II. Posted: July 20 2012 at 02:37 |
Thanks to kevin4peace for inspiration for my poll.
My criteria:
- tracks +10 minutes long
- date of release 2008-2012
- albums with +300 ratings on PA
Notice: The whole title of Maudlin's song is: "Laboratories of the Invisible World (Rollerskating the Cosmic Palmistric Postborder)"

Beardfish! If the album contained only this one song I would still give it 5 stars!

Although I really love Indigo I'll go with Beardfish which is a true masterpiece.

Well, I would expect a bit more sophisticated post just from you! Isn't that something like trolling?

Laboratories is my favourite maudlin track, so that's gets my vote. It goes through so many different moods and atmospheres, it's extraordinary.

It's not trolling, it's just giving an opinion. It's okay.
I voted for MotW again. Part the Second is a masterpiece.

Had to vote for Snowtorch, although Sleeping In Traffic, Rogue and Raider II are all exceptional pieces as well. Would have been very tough for me to vote had Snowtorch not been included in the poll.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

This is not trolling either, my problem with many of your past polls, and this one, is your number of ratings criteria. I don't believe that quantity, or knownness, equals quality. Of course what is quality is in the ear of the behearer anyway, and I would never say that being obscure equals quality. In my case, though, most of what I like is pretty obscure as my tastes are not that popular. But that is such a high number of ratings that it even disqualifies some highly regarded and I've thought very well-known tracks off modern albums such as Magma's E-Re. I also wonder how representative that popularity list is for regular forum members. I'm going to test it by putting up your first option against one of the Magma tracks -- think I'll choose "Ëmëhntëhtt-Ré II" to go up against "Indigo".
By the way, of course I'm fine with you choosing tracks to align more with your tastes, and I know you're not a big fan of my favourite acts, nor my favourite categories.
EDIT: Actually, I think it would make more sense to put Pendragons's last three studio albums up against Magma's last three and then people can choose their favourite track, or no go with my original idea out of curiosity. EDIT again, but then again I can think of more interesting polls to do if I can be half-arsed.
