This has probably been done before but, I figured I'd do this anyway. So...
Does anyone here like any songs that n one else does? A song hat is generally shunned upon but you enjoy it? For example: I have long since come to the conclusion that I am the only person who likes Moonchild by King Crimson. I simply adore it! The actual song part is gorgeous and the improv afterwards is wonderful and dreamy, I often chill out to it after a long day. I have never met or spoken to anyone who like the whole thing, just bits of it. Example 2: My friend and I once listened to Vanilla Fudge's The Beat Goes On... and loved it. Great music and some strange concepts. It wasn't until afterwards that we discovered the story behind it. I have never heard anyone say a kind word about it, yet their fusion of Moonlight sonata and Fur Elise will always be one of my favorites... Phew, it felt good getting all that off my chest! ![]() So I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has had this with favorite songs/albums. It'll be interesting to see what comes up! |

I really like More Fool Me. Most prog fan will agree that SEBTP is a classic, but that song seems to be seen as a mar on a masterpiece

i REALLY like Calibration (Is Pushing Lock and Key) from Omar's solo work. No one seems to like that album at all.
Also... I think I like Arcturus's first album a lot more than most people do. Asperia Heims Symphonia
(I know you said songs but I'm more of an album person)

Albums, Songs, it doesn't matter!
Willow, More fool Me is a very pleasent song. Perhaps it's not liked because Phil Collins sang it rather than Gabriel? Another Example I forgot to add: I love every minute of UmmaGumma. Yes, even The Grand Vizier's Tea Party! |

I absolutely love Lulu by Metallica and Lou Reed. Think it's brilliant.

There are a few prog/prog related artists/groups whose songs/albums never get mentioned by anybody except me, so i guess i could say their songs i only seem to like
Helmut Koellen-You Won't See Me-solo album by the late Triumvirat singer/guitar player Jail-You Can Help Me-1976 album featuring Helmut Koellen, Jurgen Fritz, Roland Schaeffer, and Jaki Liebezeit from Can, among others. Jail are never mentioned at all. Headstone-UK mid seventies band produced at one point by John Anthony, and featuring Atomic Rooster's guitarist Steve Bolton-the band made several albums-no one mentions them around here.(great overlooked album is the 1975 self titled one) Rose-a seventies Canadian band that are never mentioned by anybody, but are in the archives. I saw them at my high school in 1977! Awesome and totally overlooked band. (best album is 1977's A Taste Of Neptune) must be others, but these are what spring to mind Edited by presdoug - July 22 2012 at 16:41 |

I also like Moonchild and Providence; I think that both are brilliant avant-garde works, and they're my 2nd and 3rd favorite KC songs, respectively.

Magma's Call From the Dark (Ooh, Ooh Baby) springs to mind -- I get a certain perverse pleasure from it, but genuinely like elemnts It's so idiosyncratic when it comes to Magma (Vander did do a better version of it with Offering). I also like Otis off Merci very much (moreso actually) which is not panned as much -- I know some others who like it. Merci is generally panned, but particularly For Call From the Dark (I like the album very much)
Speaking of an album that is generally dismissed rather than a particular song, Comus To Keep From Crying I really like. No, it's no First Utterance , but good in its own right. I've seen Down Like a Movie star panned before: Another that I've seen many pan but I love is Matching Mole's "Ö Caroline" And I guess my ultimate fave that is off an album in PA that I've never heard panned, but I doubt many here would like is the following is the pop song With You. I particularly like "With You" in the context of the album as it provides delicious contrast. And sorry for embedding a few youtube vids, but I find the music speaks better for itself than I am able to. |

Earth and Fire's more Europop/disco efforts from the late 70s, including this wonderful single, 78th Avenue.

I like that too. I'm an unabashed liker of disco.
Sorry to mention a Frizzi again (co-written by Lucio Fulci), and I don't know what others would think of this, and I don't want to take this off-topic, but I also like this discoie track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV1RTQvW-hs And if Cicciolina is ever added to Prog Archives not yet proposed Progressive Porncore category, I like her Italo-disco music. Apologies for any silliness. Edited by Logan - July 21 2012 at 18:39 |
