I've been listening to Opeth a bunch lately, more than I have in a very, very long time, aside from the occasional album here or there. I was curious to see what PA's members favorite albums were, so let's have it.
Mine are: Ghost Reveries Deliverance Heritage Blackwater Park Still Life Damnation Watershed My Arms, Your Hearse Morningrise Orchid Orchid and Morningrise are rarely listened to, even though I used to listen to them a lot when I was 15 or 16. The music's structures are not well crafted yet, and there's too much bleakness and black metal for my tastes these days. Ghost Reveries has been my absolute favorite ever since it came out, beating out Deliverance, which I think is an awesome album, but some people don't for some reason. Blackwater Park was my first album and I've always considered it one of their best, but was recently beat out of the top 3 slot by their new album Heritage; I love the atmosphere on their new one. The rest are great. |

I've only listened to four. I don't love growling but they're still great albums, but that puts the growless albums higher on my list.
1. Damnation 2. Heritage 3. Still Life 4. Black Water Park They're all great though.

I haven't been able to get into Opeth yet. I have copies of several albums, and I'm just waiting for them to click someday. I'm not really a metal guy, so it's an uphill battle, but I have known to get very attached to a select few metal bands from time to time (e.g. Boris), so I'm not giving up on Opeth yet.
Oh, and if you say "try Heritage" (it's not metal), I have. I just don't know what's missing. Edited by HolyMoly - August 04 2012 at 19:54 |

Morningrise is by far most definitley Opeth's best album and one of the greatest albums ever made inthe history of the time and everything.
Yes, that makes no sense, but it's quite good.

My order has been
1)Morningrise (The most intense, emotional album I have ever listened to. Blackrose Immortal and The Night and The Silent Water are songs from god. Not to forget the soothing To Bid You Farewell) 2)Orchid (A Lot of experimentation was made in this album and though some songs arent famous, they are really one of a kind. Like Under The Weeping Moon with its black metal feel and The Apostle In Triumph with the fretless bass and percussion section and not to forget the atmospheric Forest of October) 3)Blackwater Park (What a transition. The heavy songs are good and so are the softer songs as well. Perfect mix) My least favourite has been Watershed. (Mediocre though good. A disappointment when compared to Ghost Reveries) |

I listened to Morningrise earlier, and I may have to move it up a couple notches in my list, it was a lot better than I remembered it being. Ghost Reveries is still their best album.

OrchidDeliverance
Still Life Blackwater Park Damnation That last spot is kinda up for grabs to me. The first four are easily above the rest IMO.
