Does anyone have any hives? I have two. They are in the midst of a major honey flow now. Blackberries and fireweed. We leave them most of the honey to overwinter, just taking what we need. We also have pollen traps on in the spring to collect pollen. Great for keeping allergies in check. A teaspoon of pollen a day. Loaded with vitamins and minerals. They greatly benefit us by pollinating. They are fun to watch. Right now when I look over at the hives it looks like popcorn popping. Talk about a work ethic....they never stop on sunny days

Nope.  No problems with colony collapse?

Not a problem, the major problem is the gloomy seattle weather but things are heating up here finally.

I've always wanted to try beekeeping, but I change my address too frequently and am too urban to seriously consider it.

Mobil beehive probably not, I think there is quite a trend in urban beekeeping but I don't know much about it.

Hey, I just remembered my wife was driving the remote when we were in bed and couldn't sleep late at night, landed on Comedy Central, and they were playing Jackass 2.  As a beekeeper you might not find this funny - beehive limo...

They drop a load of bees into a limo with the jackasses locked inside.  When the doors are released there's a bunch of ball bearings outside the doors.  Some bees may have been hurt in the filming of that prank.  We still laughed our asses off.

On a side note I still find bumblebees fascinating creatures.  I've had an interest in various critters since I was a little kid.  Wasps however are satan's spawn.

Don't care for bees.

We get paper wasp and occasional bumblebee nests, but raising your own is pretty neat, and you're helping the honeybee population too.

Timothy, do not watch Jackass 2 or anything Jackass related.  Just eat a bunch of manure, throw it up, then eat up the vomit if you want the Jackass experience.  Talentless idiots.

Actually, to post what I originally came here to post (warm childhood memories):

How far are the hives from your house? I wonder if bees need a huge territory not only to find flowers, but also to feel at ease.
Excuse me, sir, do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, Neptune, god of the Sea?

The hives are about 60 feet from the house. They can range 5 miles. I have a pond so their water needs are met right here. I have seen very few on or in the house. The blackberries and fireweed are about a mile away.
