How about a section for `Other'?!

Just that I would have voted `Sanhedrin - Ever After' - I suppose it's an uplifting instrumental prog album! Full of beautiful, soaring melodic guitar solos and warm keyboards!

I do like Camel's `Snow Goose' (which is probably the obvious winner here!), but I find it a little too....pretty sometimes? I much prefer all their other albums on either side of it!

Mikael Akerfeldt for fans of Opeth who don't like his growls (and generally the growls): If they don't like it then they are pussies.

Deleted the Tangerine Dream choices since it's really not too inspirational, same with Passion, but I'll leave that. And made 'Other'! Sorry, I forgot about that Tongue

I'm thinking this poll will be a nearly tied between The Geese & The Ghost and The Snow Goose. Huh, never noticed the similar names.. Ermm

Changed it so there's no blank in this poll. So, sorry who voted for 'Other'. Because now you voted for Escenes. Still a great album though!

Racoon! It's actually kind of difficult working out what exactly equals inspirational!

At work right now I just finished listening to Anima Morte's `The Nightmare Becomes Reality', which is sort of a `horror soundtrack/Goblin' styled instrumental album, and although it's dark in places, it's got these beautiful uplifting melodic passages too, so I was thinking `Man, even an album like this can be inspirational and uplifting!'

I think you'll get some very interesting responses in this poll!

I don't like any of these, and what do you mean inspirational? Just albums that invoke that?

I mean albums that invoke beauty, or just uplifts your emotions. Songs like The Lover by The Enid is a perfect example. It isn't complex, or exciting, but has a lovely feel that brighten your feelings. Nearly puts a smile upon your face.

At least that's my belief of what 'inspirational' means. Songs that really make you think, and put a strong emotion out. Doesn't have to necessarily be beauty, but a strong uplifting emotion just by instruments.

If you don't like any of these, pick 'Other' and pick an album that 'moved' you.

I chose The Geese and the Ghost but Aerie Faerie Nonsense was a very close second. Had you chosen In the Region of the Summer Stars to represent The Enid I would have gone with that one. (Those are my top three instrumental albums.) Touch Me (also by The Enid) and Snow Goose are great albums too.

For some reason I was thinking the whole ItRotSS wasn't a inspirational album altogether, but it really is. My bad, even though you already voted, I'm changing Escenes to ItRotSS. Perhaps we'll have more competition in this poll with that choice anyways.

Of those listed, Ommadawn gets my vote.  After that, I would say Slow Dance.  Most of the others I like a lot, but they do not move me much.  There are, however, a number by Vangelis, that I find inspiring: Heaven & Hell, Le Apocalypse d'Animaux (sic), El Greco, 1492, and several passages from Blade Runner.

I like every one of these albums, particularly the Geese and the Ghost and the three Enid albums (the original of In the Region of the Summer Stars is better than the re-recorded version, despite what the sleeve notes say!), but The Snow Goose is simply the most astonishing album ever recorded.

To those who say it's too "pretty" or too "soft", read the ****** book!!! Then you might understand WHY it is as it is and you might realise why it's such a tour de force.

Er, I think you're missing something, or has it been added to the poll after your comment??

My go-to album when I'm feeling down is Michael Hoenig's "Departure from the Northern Wasteland".  It's a German electronic album from 1978 that brings back fond memories of my youth, when my dad used to play it a lot.  I probably listen to it once a week.

Of the choices given, though, The Snow Goose wins easily.
