I'm not sure if anyone has posted about this yet. Pretty awesome!

The winners were announced. Genesis won the lifetime achievement award, Wakeman won the 'Prog God' award, Rush won album of the year, Peter Hammill won in the 'Visionary' category, and Carl Palmer won the 'Virtuoso' award. There were others as well. Apparently many of the prog legends were in attendance (members of ELP, VdGG, Genesis, Yes, as well as Fish, Phil Manzanera, etc). It had to have been filmed, would be great to see!

Here are photos of winner Peter Hammill with 1) Guy Evans and Fish; 2) Mikael Akerfeldt (from Opeth) who presented Peter with his award.

Kudos to the magazine for getting the celebs out and getting the mainstream media coverage. Color me impressed.

Thumbs UpClap
This is excellent. It would be pleasant to see the video, if there is one.

Why did Clockwork Angels get AOTY :|

Kudos to Hamill btw, great award for him. Though he's looking very frail. Poor guy, ageing suck.

Compare him to Rothery, Kelly, and Trewavas, and it is a sign of a very active (misspent) life!

In Lazland, life is transient. Prog is permanent.

I also saw the borderline offensive news report on BBC 1 this morning where a journalist asked I think it was Carl Palmer, why prog rock was 'embarrassing'.

I was not happy. Neither was he...

Is Fish the big man on the right?

Trewavas looks fine to me, at least based on the Transatlantic videos from 2009/2010.
My Last.fm
Jazz-rock conspiracy? Zappa and Miles played at the same festivals in the
summer of '69 right BEFORE Hot Rats AND Bitches Brew were recorded.

^ Yes he is.

The man of the left is the drummer for VdGG as well. In his prime he looked like Mick Fleetwood imo.

Second to the left.

I think it was Justin Hayward who just gave a quizzical look and said something like 'Is it?'. Also I expect the question was phrased something like 'why is that prog rock is considered embarrassing by some?' but it was yesterday and I don't remember exactly. I don't believe there was anything offensive about the report and I was pleased that the BEEB gave the awards some coverage at least.

I think you're right, I forgot exactly who it was they were interviewing. Well maybe I overreacted a bit, but it certainly had the feel of a news report compiled by someone who didn't know a huge amount about what they were covering.

I've seen it before when I am well versed in something (see Judo at the olympics) and then watching a report on the news you see how many inaccuracies and falsities there are. I wonder how much of the news I've watched completely oblivious to this fact, while experts are sat at home cringing...

That being said, they did give it coverage which was surprising and rather exciting actually. I'm just a little bit vexed at the way they decided to do it.

Yellow, Nick Cassavetes' new film that premieres at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, September 6-16 ( url: bit.ly/YELLOWtiff12 ) is fast turning out to be a must watch film at the festival this year. Described as a wildly inventive and visually dazzling head trip by Piers Handling, co-director of the festival, Yellow is a searing take on modern society and the demands it makes on people. The film tells the story of Mary Holmes, (Heather Wahlquist), a young substitute teacher who escapes from her drudging everyday life by fantasizing bizarre parallel realities. We enter her hallucinatory world, peopled with Busby Berkeley dancers, Cirque du Soleil, Circus freaks, and human farm animals where nothing is quite what it seems.

“Yellow” isn’t a movie about redemption or triumph or cure, so if you’re looking for that, you’ve probably come to the wrong place," says Nick Cassavetes. " It’s just a story of how Mary deals with her everyday life. Yeah, the bottom’s going to fall out, and probably soon, but that’s for another story," he says.

"Film like Yellow aren't easy to make or finance. It's world premiere at Toronto is a triumph of Independent cinema, ." ," says Manu Kumaran, the producer of the film of Yellow.

Presented by Medient Yellow features Heather Wahlquist, Seinna Miller, Milaine Griffith, Gena Rowlands, Lucy Punch, Ray Liota David Morse, Max Theoriot,  Riley Keough, Daveigh Chase and Evan Suplee.

Hi,

Wow ... Peter looks happy ... but he doesn't look well to me at all.

And yeah ... nice to see folks like him appreciated by a wider group ... he really deserves it.
Some old holy curmudgeon said from his holy trinity of a chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... is always better sex for your and your lover!
