I could recommend their first 3-4 records easily, but I will suggest to listen first "Everyone is everybody else", "Octoberon", and "Live" (1974). But first make a small search on the following songs: Moonwater, Medicine man,
The poet & After the day, Galadriel, She Said.
That's what I suggest at least... I hope It'll be helpfull... Wink
Thanks, I'll jot that down for later. Smile

My favorite album from the Moody Blues is their Live At Red Rock with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.  I originally bought the single disc version and have since bought the 2-disc version, although I think that I prefer the single disc.  I have all of their albums but have only listened to each of them a handful of times.  None of them have ever had the same effect on me as the Live at Red Rock album.

My favorite is In Search of the Lost Chord, or To Our Children's Children, or A Question of Balance, or....dang, I can't decide.

There are several masterpieces on this list, Days being the most prominent, but my favorite is To Our Children's Children's Children: Their studio techinique (i.e. multi-instrumentation and overdubs) had reached its peak with that one and the songs are all great.

I would love it if I liked Barclay James Harvest, but every time I've tried to listen to them the music just seems to dissipate before it reaches my brain.  It's frustrating because I feel like they should be my kind of band.  What one album would you recommend to someone like me?

I'd suggest you simply buy BJH Live, which is one of the best live albums ever and has all their best songs up to then on it.

I agree with Hercures. BJH Live closes with the best way possible their first period. All songs are is superb versions, and in general is a very good album!
But because this is a Moody Blues Topic, is better to open another one for BJH, right? Wink
