Ok, since I'm able now to make a poll I'm doing this to see how it happens, but also to see which of these 2 bands you like most.
So it is Barclay James Harvest VS The Moody Blues.
I chose these 2 bands because in a way they both have nice melodies, and their style is not very different.
Aslo it is very possible that many peoplewill like them both. So, lets see what the result will be...
First vote's on me, and I will vote for BJH. Smile

Same here! And that's why I put those 2 bands. To be a bit hard to vote. Evil Smile
Because if you put 2 very different bands in style, then is easy!

Don't know why but I was never able to get into The Moody Blues as much as I tried. I have several albums by BJH and I love this band. Never understood why they were called "The poor man's Moody Blues", they have quite a wide set of beautiful songs.

EDIT: I'm sure The Moody Blues gonna win this though!

Maybe because you started with the wrong albums, who knows?
Or maybe their sound does not fits you. That's normal. There are plenty of bands that are concidered huge names, and I can't listen to them no way! Except of maybe 1 album or 3-4 songs...
I also believe that The Moody Blues will win this, but let's wait and see...

The Moody Blues. Several landmark albums and exquisitely beautiful songs.

The Moody Blues were, along with the Beatles, the first music I ever listened to, dating back to when I was a toddler.  So I have a strong connection to their music. (also see my Bio on my profile).   Barclay James Harvest has failed to capture my attention so far, but I'm going to give them another shot.

I like the Moodies but don't love them.

BJH are in a far higher league when they're good - pity most albums have one or two rubbish tracks except the astonishing first live album, which is 4 sides of absolute magic.
I have many faults. Being wrong is not one of them.

Have to go with the magnificent Moodies, though I also like BJH a lot.

The magnificent Moodies for me, but neither of these band interest me that much. The Moodies have created such a remarkable and influential body of work though, crossing and mixing from one style to the next.

Never could get into BJH (with the exception of Dark Now My Side, love that song). Which is strange because I love The Moodies. So many classics... Even there 'latter' albums. "Lost... In a lost world!"

So, easily Moodies.

I can't pick.  Intellectually and even ratings wise the Moodys are clearly better to me but when BJH was on they blew the Moodys out of the water.    Both reputations were somewhat tarnished by largely substandard work in the 80s.

Whose reputations weren't tarnished by substandard work in the 80's? I can think of only Rush and maybe Camel. Anyway, grew up with the music of the Moodys. Loved the first orchestral album, mostly liked the second one except for a couple of songs and then only liked a couple of individual songs off each of their next albums up to Seventh Sojourn and didn't follow them after that.  BJH, I just find the more consistent band of the two and work better as a live band than The Moody Blues.

I can't pick one over the other. Both are all time favorites and have been profound musical influences. Although Wooly's passing was a real punch in the gut.
