This one's much tougher for me. I love Fracture and Trio, but I also love The Great Desciver, Lamnet and The Night Watch. I don't think I'll vote on this one.

This one is much, much harder. I went with instrumentals despite the brilliance of Great Deceiver.

Ummmmmmmm

Instrumentals I guess.  Real close call though.

I just listened to this last month for the first time and spun it again several times the next few days.  The whole thing is great, but the vocals make the tracks even better

Instrumentals, easily. The Improvs are out of this world and Fracture is one of my favourite KC tunes. It's almost disturbing to think of all those crazy ideas going down in their heads as they recorded the piece. LOL

Again, the instrumentals.

Instrumentals, plus 'The Night Watch' which I think is one of the best things Crimson has ever done!.

Instrumentals for me, amazing stuff like Fructure, Trio and WLYK. The Night Watch is my favorite track off this album though.

Instrumentals for me, even with The Mincer & The Great Deciever in the other category.

Have to go vocals. "The Night Watch" is one of the best songs Crimson ever composed, and the lyrics relating to the famous Rembrandt painting are exceptional.

Fracture has some amazing guitar-work, obviously. But WLYK and the title track are kind of pointless improv to my ears. Trio is nice, given the right mood, but that and Fracture versus Great Deciever and Lament, both of which I think are perfect songs? Going to have to go with the vocal tracks.

Well, let's see. Among the vocal pieces, I think The Great Deceiver is a classic. The Night Watch is good, but the vocals in the midsection seem quite hectic to me (and I'm ambivalent about the lyrics, what with "guitar lessons for the wife" an all). The Mincer is an okay jam with a good bassline, but not much of interest happening over it. The beginning of Lament isn't bad, but it quickly falls apart once the drums come in.

Among the instrumentals, Fracture and Trio are great, but the other two I couldn't care less about. We'll Let You Know, with its stuttering bass, feels like a stiff and clumsy attempt at doing something Miles Davis-like to me, and the title track is the rare case of a jam where nobody contributes anything interesting. I still don't get why they put this particular improv on the album.

In the end, I'll have to go with the instrumentals, which have more hit, but also more miss.

Definitely a tough one. Fracture is one of my all time favorite KC songs, but other than Trio, I could care less about the other two instrs. However, I really like Night Watch and Lament....so I don't know what to pick. Think i'll pass on this vote.

Like many have said, this is tricky. I slightly prefer the instrumentals, because Fracture, the title track, and Trio are all very good, but Great Deceiver and Lament hold up their section pretty well!
