3:30 is about average for most songs, especially older ones. I would consider anything under three minutes pretty short.

Not their shortest, but the shortest that actually made sense. I would probably set the bar at 1:00. Since my punk days were filled with :45 to 1:30 songs.

it is not the size of the track that matters but what you put into it which is the clue

this is 3 min of ear orgasme

you know Procol Harum created their own nieche in prog in the 70s like theyr own symph prog sound which they molded to their own IMO, quote Aginor

I couldn't agree more. All of DNA's songs are pretty short (almost all of them are under 3:00s), but I still love them to death.

It seems I was the first one to vote for <4m30s.

In the Prog environment anything less than that is short. but the next benchmark was 7 minutes and that, while not being ecessively long, feels not right for the question, a 6m30s is not what you can call a short song either.

That was my first thought. But I voted 3:30 since it was closest.

There are many great short songs, like "Auslafen" from the Das Boot soundtrack (1:14)

Hah I was just going to post some stuff off Scum....

Anyways back on topic: tracks that end very rapidly, I guess.
