I took the idea by the member 'Textbook' in the poll about Italian Vs Mexican cuisine.
As maybe a few already know, I am from Greece. What you do not know is that because my wife is from Turkey, I have spend the last 10-12 years between these two countries, and the last 1.5 year I'm living in Turkey permanently.
So, as you can easily understand I have tried both cuisines, have eaten numberless meals, have tried also many weird dishes, and so on...
So, I would like to see what is your opinion on that subject.
Turkish or Greek cuisine?
I will vote for Greek, not because I am from there, but because I believe is more healthy, has many more famous dishes, and much more optıons. I also like the taste more, but that depends on each one's likings...

I don't feel like I know enough about Turkish food to make an educated vote, but from what I have tried they are both very good. I have a little Turkish coffee ibrik that has brought me great joy.

I lived in Germany for three years and ate a lot of Turkish fast food (doener kebabs mainly). On that basis alone the Turks win.

So your mother is coming from Crete eh? (Most probably at least).
Maybe the best food in whole Greece! (And a great island in general!)

Not really. She was born here in Argentina. My grandfather was the one that came from Greece. But he was born near the port of Piraeus.

Ah ok. I said that because 90% of the surnames that has the suffix 'akis' in the end are coming from Crete.
I guess your grandfather belongs to the other 10%... Tongue

Didn't know that. Perhaps his father or some of his ancestors was born there.

I voted Greek because I haven't had enough Turkish to really judge.  (That's one of those cuisines that I have to travel an hour north for, since I live in an area that's not as ethnically diverse.)

The town I'm from has a Grecian Festival every August that I try to go to every year.  I have a nice souvlaki dinner and take home a bunch of pastry.

BRUTAL.

Haven't had enough Greek to really tell (only had it once). Never had Turkish, don't even know where to get it around here...though I would like to try it.

I've had both, we have a few Greek restaurants in the Atlanta area and Istanbul Cafe is really close to home.  I have yet to find a cuisine I don't like.  The Atlanta area has matured a lot since the '70's in the variety of restaurants specializing in various international cuisines.  You can get just about anything somewhere. Big smile

Greek is some of my favourite food in the world. Gyros, Lamb Chops, Greek Salad, all delicious. I fortunately have a great, authentic Greek cuisine in my area that makes really great food and has a really nice interior. A little pricey, but worth it.

Greek salad, is a rough country salad of juicy tomatoes, crisp cucumber, sliced red onion, green pepper, crumbly feta cheese and plump kalamata olives. Greek salad can be served as a side dish or as a light meal with some crusty bread.
