You'll hear some tone block in the track 'Avadante'..
But if that's not enough and it's cow bell you crave,
Leave it with me and wait for album number two ;)

Always great to hear Oz Prog from an Aussie! Hope that the band continues to create great prog. The band are relatively new and need more support I believe. I could add a review.

KETTLESPIDER PROGFEST REPORT!

Hello prog lovers!

As i sit and listen to 'A Passion Play' on a rainy Melbourne day, I thought i'd use the blog here to tell you a little bit about a gig that Kettlespider did last week here in Melbourne! I think i might make a habit of this too.. It's good to keep everybody in the loop!

The 'Espy Hotel' is an iconic Melbourne music venue that is home to many metal/rock gigs and awesomely enough, PROG gigs too - particularly in it's 'Gershwin Room', a long, hall-like room with great sound and a very unique appearance and feel.

Last Saturday, Kettlespider had the chance to perform in the Gershwin Room alongside 22 other BRILLIANT Australian prog bands at Australia's biggest progressive music festival, PROGFEST. The band played a selection of songs from debut album 'Avadante', including seldom played 'Comatose' - which was a personal highlight. Two brand new songs from the second album, Samsara were also trialled - and were greeted with a warm reception.

From up on stage it was very special to see a PACKED room full of enthusiastic and attentive prog fans, and it certainly gave the band a big adrenaline rush, really bringing the best out of our performances!

The event was a huge success and certainly showed us that the prog scene is well and truly alive, with an attendance of well over 1000 people cramming into the Hotel's two main rooms!

Stay tuned to the Kettlespider youtube -

As there will be VIDEO FOOTAGE from the gig posted there soon!

Long Live Prog!

Simon

I just looked on wikipedia - expecting it to be some new species of australian arachnid with a venom capable of delivering a killing bit that even prayers to the Lord Jesus won't stop you from dying horribly....Tongue

But no - it's just a name....But the Yes/Rush/Haken/LTE sounds promising - can we buy a CD?

Haha! So sorry to disappoint you after your Wikipedia research - its just a funny band name that came about when we were making some coffees at a rehearsal one day! I'm sure glad we didn't drink that venomous coffee though..

Glad people are enjoying the band name though, and hopefully the tunes!

You can indeed buy a cd! We'd be so grateful. Amazon and cdbaby have it, but we'd take great pride in sending it out ourselves to be honest, it's more personal and we can show you how we appreciate it that way!

Thanks for keeping the thread from an early death guys!

Are you guys going to stick with the instrumental only or eventually get a vocalist in ?
They flutter behind you your possible pasts,
Some bright-eyed and crazy, some frightened and lost.

Thanks for the question! We get asked this quite a bit haha..

To answer in brief before i elaborate slightly, there will likely be vocals on future albums of ours.

We are open to incorporate whatever is best for each song.. and some songs we have on the pipeline are perhaps calling for a vocal hook of some kind, or maybe a woodwind instrument etc...

In the case of 'AVADANTE', it was natural to capture the album in the way it was written and intended to sound, instrumental.. The challenge of conveying a story/message through music is one that we are excited by.. it just takes that connection between musician and instrument to the next level.. and as we've found talking to people after shows, it can be very powerful for the listener too!

If we happen to cross paths with someone who is the right fit for our band both socially and vocally, things can always change i guess!

Until then, we are writing album number two, 'SAMSARA', and it's turning out to be one of the most rewarding things each of us have ever done. Can't wait to share it with all of you!

Kettlespider would like to thanks AtomicCrimsonRush for leaving a lovely review of our debut album 'Avadante' here on the progarchives! We're glad to have you on board for the journey!

We invite you to have a read of the superb review (linked below), and encourage you to listen to the album (we're offering a discount for the digital download on our bandcamp at the moment) and write a review of your own if you have the time and are interested in supporting a hard working, up and coming progressive rock band!

Cheers

The most well-known and respected progressive rock band to emerge from Down Under that  includes elements of world, classical, jazz, heavy rock and groove..The music never gets slowed down, and although the composition style is awesome.
