Let me play bass more emotional - hit low note and sustain it for 8 beats.

Geddy, both as a bassist and singer.

As a bassist I'm not so sure who I prefer, perhaps Wetton. As a singer, Geddy Lee easily. Wetton, at least on his King Crimson years, is one of my least favourite singers (though time seems to have treated him well, unlike other singers, and lately I do have enjoyed his singing).

I'm not very impressed with Geddy's work, honestly ... at least on most occasions. John can really make some cool bass grooves when improvising. Answer is: John. Great bassist. He was a great singer, but now Geddy just beats him, I'd say.

Hercules, I just watched that clip, just brilliant playing from Wetton. I think we all froget just how good he is, especially when you listen to his more comercial work of the last few years!!

Of course, that's not the only track where Wetton kicked a$%. Hell, I'd pull anything from KC's SABB as an example.

Now I can't split them; they're both brilliant bass players and good vocalists.

I've never seen this version before. Why have I not seen it before?

For bass, I am tempted to go with Wetton just for KC because nothing in Rush compares to that phase of KC and what Wetton achieved with them.  But as a singer, Geddy's voice has held up better (and nor did I see the fuss about Wetton anyway, even on Red).  No vote.

Ish!  Wetton.  Superior bass technique, and a voice that doesn't sound like 20 KM of bad road, even during a good show!

I first saw JW on the LTIA tour, and Geddy on the "Fly By Night" tour.  I've also played bass for over forty years.  I guess I have a dog in this hunt!

Here, listen to Wetton's playing at 5:00.  Funk-ee!   Geddy never does that, he's a straight-ahead Rick player.

Straight-ahead player? I don't think that gives him any justice whatsoever. He's famous for his brilliant counter playing.

Indeed. The melodies he comes up with often outshine the guitar or vocal lead of the song. I find it impossible to listen to Lifeson's solo in Limelight because I am always fascinated by what Geddy is doing at the same time.

So, John it is.

Geddy wins in all fields. Check out those bass lines on Freewill, especially the instrumental/ solo section:

3:10! How can you even focus on Alex's solo when you have grooves like that? Cool
